alwaystheocean's Journal, 08 May 2010

so, today is 1 week following the induction phase of atkins. i'm not exactly sure what to say. it's been a rough week. not as far as food choices, that actually has been pretty simple (though i'm a bit over eggs at the moment and need to come up with some new breakfasts!) but physically it was a rough week.

i don't know if it was normal. i felt horrible and bloated and tired, had a migraine yesterday for the first time in ages... and since i don't have a scale i actually have no idea if i've lost any weight or inches since i was just guessing on my starting weight. but, i figured i'd feel a difference if there was a significant one.

i really stuck to the induction rules, only 20 net carbs a day (or just under) lots of vegetables, lots of water drinking... not sure i am getting enough fiber. or actually calories for that matter. which i know is a weird thing to say, but i had to sit down with a few tablespoons of unsweetened whipped cream last night just to hit 1200 for the day.

anyway, thoughts, suggestions and comments are always appreciated. thoughts on fiber supplements (like psyllium husk?), and on total caloric intake during induction?

First, your feeling horrible and having the migraine is probably due to the "Atkin's Flu". Try drinking a cup or two of full sodium chicken or beef broth a day. As for your diet, you need to attempt to get between 1500-1700 calories a day. You can get the calories up by adding some butter, olive oil, and full fat mayo. Good luck and if you need anything please don't hesitate to ask. Hope you feel better soon.

I equate the "Atkins Flu" as carbohydrate withdrawals. That will go away and as long as you're getting enough calories in you will feel great! Watch the calories though because I actually caused a stall at 297 lbs because I wasn't eating enough! I had to add about 1000 calories a day before I started losing again!
