Brrrr! I hate being cold!

Yeah, even if true 10 min of icy hell is not worth it. The fact that it gives no exercise example also makes it suspect. 1 hour of what type of exercise? There is a huge difference between 1 hour of leisurely riding a bike vs. 1 hour of running.

Reminds me of the people who workout in a hoodie. Sure, you sweat more but the cost(being miserably hot) is not worth a couple more calories of energy being used to cool your body.

I’ve spent a lot of time outside in the winter. I’ve yet to see my problem areas get smaller in the winter! IF this were true, obviously it’s not, then applying heat would work as well because your body would then work hard to reach 98.6 again I would think. I AM tempted to put a couple ice packs on my love handles though to see if there’s a change. I’ll do it during a hot flash 🤣. Cold natured so I couldn’t do it for long!

I spent many years working as a newsagent in a 600yr old building.. in temperatures as low as minus 14.. unfortunately I just got fatter by snacking on toast, milky tea and crisps all day.. no smaller butt here

Being a tad cold while sleeping will do for me. Cold to the bone is really painful. Slept on a plastic bag in a dug out hole in the snow one winter night. PAIN. Fell through an icy lake, and had to ride on a motor bike back home one winter morning. The ride was an hour and ten minutes. PaIn. Generally try to avoid it. However, I like the idea of what finns and russians do. Heat and quick cool. Guess that would be refreshing.

lol, I don't have AC (at home, have it at work) and it has been in the 90s+ here lately so at night I sleep with an ice pack. Guess I should put those packs on my 'fat packs' :-)

Back in the day this was a treatment for mental illness, depression, bipolar, schizophrenia. I remember it well. Just sayin

I am going the opposite route as most comments here. I would think it works at least to some degree. When I gained a lot of weight I remember I stopped getting cold as much. When I asked my doctor, he said I had made brown fat which helps keep you warm. It also increases your metabolic rate to lose more weight. here is some infor - no spaces https://www.rd.com/health/diet-weight-loss/ brown-fat-boost-metabolism/

Ugh Kenna, I have depression and anxiety and I can honestly say that cold does NOT help. Silly to think it would! Adjusting my diet based on online articles didn’t help either. So now I’m happily medicating hoping to find a good balance even though I dislike taking meds of any kind. I took chemo so in my mind I should be able to get over my ‘very little meds’ way of thinking if it helps me function. I feel so sorry for anyone who had to deal with such torturous ‘healings’!

Diddlee that doesn’t sound fun at all! Honestly I dislike the cold. 75-90 is my sweet spot ;). Closer to 85-90 if I get a choice!

I've done it cold baths aren't worth it. they are physically painful. maybe a cold shower

I’ll check it out MJ tyty. I won’t do ice baths but I’m willing to try some ice packs like JMA said. Just for fun and not expecting results. Again I dislike cold so I doubt I could stick with it long.

Gael I tend to gain more in the winter too. Some because I’m bored and eat and mostly because when I’m cold I get way hungrier!

Barbie, no wya would I take a cold bath OR showers lol. But maybe some ice packs as an experiment only on certain areas. Wrapped in a washcloth though so it doesn’t stick to me. Posted as a joke actually but I like playing around with experiments so I may try the ice packs.

Crazy when you think about it now— they were still doing it in the 1960s along with insulin therapy and shock therapy. They are doing electrical shock therapy again, only a little more humanly and it is effective they say. I have not researched it myself but fun to look back at the past and see what theories were thought of as gospel.

Well why the hell am I so fat? I live in the coldest part of the US in the winter.
