One benefit from Atkins not mentioned - better skin - my back was broken out in acne from medication I'm on, I had no acne when younger in my twenties, I'm 45 now. An antibiotic worked months ago but I couldn't tolerate it. Anyway, it took about 4 months but the breakouts have come to a halt... my back is almost totally clear. I saw on TV a while back a low carb diet was thought to help clear up the skin - it really does. I'm going to avoid wheat products as they seem to trigger it. Anyone with this problem should see improvement like I did - but it takes a while to get all the carb toxins out of one's system it has been about four months for me - and this just solidifies for me just another reason why Atkins is a great lifestyle change! :)

It could have been from a wheat sensitivity or a candida issue, both would be improved with the Atkins diet. I am allergic to wheat and I know a lot about allergy issues. Carbs in general trigger yeast problems and a lot of people who experience acne even in the face can usually stop taking prescription medications for it if they eliminate most forms of sugar. It is amazing that it is that simple, but doctors would rather give you a pill than tell you what not to eat. It is unfortunate but true. :) I have a friend that just stopped eating sugar and her acne cleared up completely within 2 months. She also started taking probiotic supplements at the same time.
