Day 188- So I sort of ran a 5K today, it was labeled a 5K, but my phone tracked 2.55mi and my sons ipod tracked 2.7mi, so it was not really a 5K. It was also a trail run with some terrain that was a little challenging at times. So the results: I came in 47 out of 77 runners, 7th out of 9 for my age group of men. My time was 26.23, pace was 10:30min mi, slow for me. Being my first timed true race I was really concerned about starting out to fast and burning out early that I think I hurt my pace and time. I had plenty of energy to finish the race and would have picked up my pace if I realized how short it was. Overall I am happy and feel good, no pain. If anything I am a little upset that it was not a full 5K. I am thinking of doing another one next weekend to get a true feel for it and find one that is a road race. My son did well, he came in 5th overall and 2nd for his age group, time 19.54min.

So being my first race it did not let me down for strange folks, there was this guy that was complaining about everything from the time we checked in to the awards, he was one of those folks every time the race coordinator said something he had a question and an insult to go with it. He also strutted around the whole time, I and my son got a good laugh every time we saw him. He finished near the middle of the pack and was mad because he could not walk/run the course before the race. At one point I almost asked him ‘what the hell are you doing here if all you want to do is complain?’ he also was one of the 4 folks that has on skintight gear the whole day, lol. I was a nice mix of folks because it was held at a YMCA campground, there were road runners and a lot of woodsy types, kind of what I am. And on top of that it was a Life is Good event so those folks were mixed in, yes I am one.

And on top of all that I lost another lb today before the race, I even had a larger dinner last night in prep for the run….I will take it, but I wonder if I am going to stall again?

Congrats to you running your first race and losing the lb. Sounds like a nice day even though you had one who tried to ruin it for everyone.

Sounds like good weather for the run...or at least no rain. Congrats on the lb lost! Keep doing what you're doing cause it's working. :-)

Congrats on the race! I can understand a little disappointment since you didnt know it was shorter... just more motivation to get registered for another one :)
