Gallimh's Journal, 24 July 2012

Was doing great yesterday on the food & exercise yesterday until my stupid subconscious told me that I needed a "reward" for doing so well. Of course my reward ended up being a load of sugar-coated popcorn and salt-laden chips! Argh! Completely undid all my good work and it showed on the scale today. Why do I equate rewards with junk food? :-(

So I have a new resolve today... I did 2 rounds of exercise: 30 day shred and 30 mins on the treadmill. Yay me.

The bad news is that it's hubby's birthday tomorrow and we're treating ourselves to our favourite dinner: Ling Ling potstickers. Oh man... super-bad but oh-so-good!

life is going to happen. you are very aware of what you are doing, where along the lines of your established rules and habits they fall, and so it's easy for you to make corrections as you see fit to meet your goals. congrats on your progress and keep it up!!

Personally, I used to find junk food too tempting to have around the house when I was trying to lose weight. I needed to be in a certain mind set to be able to resist those sorts of things and that didn't come until later. But if it's there, it's always going to pose some sort of temptation. Is it possible to keep that sort of stuff out of the house or have your hubby lock his "stash" away in a cupboard if he isn't on board to clean the cupboards? I try to find non-food rewards and strategies to deal with celebrations that don't fall back into my old habits. Those "old habits" are what we need to change or we will just be going around in circles. Good job with the exercise!

I try not to see junk food as a reward. Instead, if it's something I really like, I try to work some into my day as an ordinary food. Giving it a bad label and feeling guilty about eating it makes it more important than it is. It's just food. So what if it's not the healthiest choice. Does every single thing we eat have to be healthy? Is that some kind of rule that people trying to get healthier are not allowed to have treats too? Your diet journal looks pretty darn good to me. I think that you are doing great. Be proud of yourself and celebrate every little accomplishment. You deserve it.
