biblioholic03's Journal, 12 February 2008

Well it's been a busy week! But I'm back and ready to get this weight off (again...). I changed my diet even though that changes your start weight b/c I'm sort of doing a combo of WW and Fat Smash. Plus the weight I was at yesterday is almost the weight when I started in November, which is extremely disappointing.

I'm trying to convince Greg to let us get an elliptical - I think *I* would use it, but is there anyone out there that has an elliptical/other machine at home and never uses it? Our concern is that although we have a YMCA membership he doesn't use his, so it's a waste of money. I use mine, but not that often. If I had an elliptical then it would be there all the time and I wouldn't be confined to working out with the schedule of the gym. And since we're sort of broke right now it would save us $50 a month. Any recommendations?

I finally came up with some rewards for myself for this weight loss, so hopefully I can stick to it and get them!

I went geocaching this past weekend with some friends and it was pretty fun. On Friday we did a lot of hiking/walking probably about 5 miles, but it was through the woods, in the dark! So we were stepping over trees, and ducking under brush, and up and down hills and things. It was nice. Saturday was a lot of walking too, Sunday not so much. We did go up 167 steps in a lighthouse Sunday morning though!

I think things are getting accomplished for me. Just sort of put together, you know what I mean? I've been applying for different internships and I actually have 2 jobs right now. I work for the state with both jobs. One I go to current and old gas stations and check nearby for water receptors so that the information is updated so people's water supply doesn't get contaminated. The other job is the the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology. I work in the library doing cataloging. Let me tell you that is a chore. Luckily we ordered a new computer and software yesterday, so I'll really be starting end of the week/beginning of next. The computer they had been using was from 1988 - yes I said 88! And it was so horrible. So we'll see what happens. I make my own hours with the gas job, and was going to work today, but Greg had the digital camera that I need in his car. So no point in my going to the same place twice. So I'm doing a little here and cleaning house. Which there's a lot of laundry and just stuff to do when you've been gone for a week.

Anyway, guess this is long enough!

Oh another question...how can I encourage a man to exercise??

Hey, maybe one of those pedometers would inspire you! If you wear it while you're geocaching and see that you get a good amount of exercise, maybe it will encourage you to do something extra on other days... how do you encourage a man to exercise? make a deal with him, bargain with him, OR fill out a weekly exercise plan in advance and ask him to 'agree' to certain days. Have a great day friend!

What is geocaching? Yeah, getting an elliptical would be good if you can't get to the gym. I wish I has a bowflex. About encouraging a man to exercise, hmm, that's a tough one! Any kind of sports or activities that he likes that you can do with him? If not there's always the bedroom workout! :D

If you enjoy using an eliptical machine, then it would be a good idea to get one. We used our treadmill a lot before it broke. That is the only pitfall of owning your own machine. And there is always the great outdoors as you know very well with all of your geocaching expeditions. Maybe it would be an idea to take up running. All you need is a pair of good shoes and you can exercise anywhere your life takes you. I thought the weather would hold me back a lot more than it does. Anyway, good like with your new eating plan. Sometimes you have to "try on" a few to see which one "fits". Also, if you don't already do it, journalling your food is a great way to see where you went right or wrong. It is easy to misjudge if you don't keep track. You can do this. Keep pushing yourself. It will happen.

LOL. I don't know if it was a freudian slip when I said "good like with your new eating plan" instead of "good luck"! Ha! It almost sounds better the other way! I hate that you can't edit your journal comments! The typos I make are real doozies sometimes!

Thanks guys for all the suggestions! I really do want an elliptical, that's the main machine I use when I go to the gym anyway. geocaching is basically like a treasure hunt but done w/ a GPS. www.geocaching.com - you can put in your zip code in the "hide and seek" and see if any are near you!

That sounds like fun, I'd love to do that!

I went to that site, there actually is a lot of people that do it around here? What I don't quit understand is who puts these thing there? and how does a gps help you find it? Is it buried or is it in plain sight? i'm interested but slightly confused. Maybe I need to do more research.

I've been trying to get my husband to exercise for years. I give up.

My husband just started working out with me. He said he was afraid I was going to get stronger than he is, so he had to stay ahead...maybe you could arm wrestle your husband...if you come close to beating him, he will start working out in a heartbeat!
