Earthlady's Journal, 20 July 2012

I'm feeling much better this morning - slept most of the afternoon and then had an early night and slept all night, too. I can't believe a local anaesthetic and a minor procedure would have that much effect.

Today is the first day of Ramadan here, so most people are fasting from dawn to dusk. For anyone who doesn't know, that means that most people who are fasting will interrupt their sleep before dawn to have a meal and take on water. From dawn to dusk they can let NOTHING pass their lips, no water, no toothpaste and certinly no food. The day here is currently over 16 hours and the daytime temperature tops 30 degrees C. Throughout this time, working people continue with their normal daily tasks. People who are at home have a slightly easier time of it as they'll adjust their daily routine to stay up until dawn then sleep until midday or later. It's a practice that's most definitely not for me, either physically, mentally or spiritually, but I can't help admire those millions of people who do keep the fast in such difficult conditions.
