Earthlady's Journal, 19 July 2012

I've just had a very late breakfast (2pm) as I had to go to hospital hungry this morning. Unacceptable irregularities in my periods meant they wanted to take a small sample from my uterus for biopsy - routine, I'm told, but the very word 'biopsy' has one worrying.... Results next week. I have to say my experience with the doctor was much better than Kingkeld's yesterday, a lovely woman, no nonsense but very warm at the same time. I had the procedure done under local anaesthetic (much to the doctor's surprise, she said they normally do it under general anaesthetic but I didn't want that if it was avoidable) so I'm feeling a bit fragile and very sleepy - it will be a lazy day for me today and the girls will have to do a minimum amount of essential housework, like cleaning up after 5 toilet-training kittens!
I was surprised to find out yesterday that my iron levels are very low as I think I have a very well-balanced and nutritious diet, however, it could be down to the blood loss over the last couple weeks. It certainly accounts for the lethargy and tiredness which I was marking down to the heat.
Hoping I'll be able to take it easy today and feel more upbeat tomorrow.

Yes, Earthlady, be well! And of course, you will let us know your results when you have them? Not sure what "unacceptable irregularities" means, and not to be nosy or presumptuous, but I guess I'm surprised the doc didn't chalk it up to "normal stage of life" we're in...Not happy about the iron level...(trying to remember what I know about that...) Did she give you your Hgb and Hct results? That would, I think, be more indicative of recent blood loss than an iron level....hmmm. A biopsy of the uterus sounds painful...a scraping (as opposed to a "punch"), I assume? So, anyway, do take it easy today!

Hmm, thanks Baxie. 14 days non-stop period - I thought it would be down to menopause but just wanted to check and the doctor seemed to think it wasn't normal. I had loads of blood tests yesterday and hormone tests - I looked at the results last night but didn't really take it in and now those printouts are in my file at the hospital where I was admitted today so I can't check the ones you mention - also some things get lost in translation! Don't forget all my stuff here is in Turkish. The Hgb and Hct were definitely in the blood tests, though - actually my error of expression mentioning iron, that's what the tablets are. I had a good sleep this afternoon and I'll be off to bed earlyish tonight, too. No pain though, no more than a normal period, so I should be OK tomorrow. Thanks for your concern :)
