Long day behind the wheel done. Car has a FIRM sports oriented suspension and beats up my back nearly as much as my bike does. You feel EVERYTHING.

The ribeye was amazingly good, grilled to a perfect med. rare and paired with salad and some mayo mixed with tabasco to serve as a dipping sauce for both steak and salad. In the range of 1300-1400 cals consumed in my meal for the day.

My son and I get into odd discussions on topics one wouldn't expect from a 15 year old. On the trip out he made some insightful observations with got me thinking on the use of words.

Words have power. Words we use in relation to ourselves or as 'self talk' have the most power of all. Word like "I can't possibly.." are obviously limiting and self defeating. But other word used like 'I hope I can.." or "With luck I will be able to..." while seemingly position or at least neutral can be equally self defeating. These words have the connotation that one cannot succeed without some random outside force lending a hand. They inadvertently strip away the idea that one has 100% control of their life. This also brings in the idea of accountability into the picture for if one is not in 100% control they are not 100% accountable for the outcome of actions taken... either positive or negative. If one is not 100% accountable for an outcome how can one truly celebrate a positive or, more importantly, honestly face a negative and make real changes.

This line of reasoning enters the world we occupy here on FS because, IMLTHO, mindfulness, POSITIVE reinforcement, and accountability are a HUGE part of any success either short or long.

Perhaps examine the thoughts above on how they might related to your own self talk. If they resonate in some way, look to replace "I hope.." and "With luck.." with something like "I will strive to.." or "I will do my best.." which, to me, acknowledges and reinforces the idea that one is 100% in control.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling, probably overly deep thoughts. An expression of my continual rummaging around my own head, opening those boxes in the corners I would rather not open. ( I put them there for a reason after all). It's what happens when stuck behind the wheel for 8 hours. :D

I hope everyone has had an enjoyable day. Keep to your plans/strategies and continue to strive toward where ever you want to be.

Road trips can make for some pretty interesting conversations, and the one you had with your son sounds like it was pretty insightful. Someone once said, "Whether you think you can, or you think you can't... you're right." Very much along those same lines. Glad you enjoyed your trip and that rib eye, but sorry your back paid a price. Strive to sleep on a good mattress tonight. lol
