Selbygirl6's Journal, 11 February 2017

Well it's official-I've lost 30 lbs since joining FS back on November 2nd. And, I've lost 45 lbs since starting this whole journey back on April 1st, 2016. Only 5 more lbs til I hit the big 50 lb mark. Woo Hoo. What a great way to start the weekend. Here's a little bit of inspiration/wisdom from Ray Cronise (the guy that helped Penn Gillette lose 100 lbs in 6 months)

"First, you can’t out-exercise your mouth. It doesn’t matter if you lose weight rapidly or you lose weight slow — if you eat wrong after you lose the weight, you’re going to gain it back. Second, your metabolism likely is not broken. And, third, you have to change your relationship with food unless you want to live a life of dieting. For most people, and for me when I was becoming more fat and more sick, food was simply entertainment — that’s all it was. It was no different than watching a movie. We have become a society of one continuous meal that takes breaks to sleep and work. And that’s a problem because in nature, food is rare."

Congratulations! And you are so correct about our society's obsession with food being unhealthy.

I love the quote "your can't out-exercise your mouth" LOL That is so true. Exercise should complement your diet as part of a healthy lifestyle. I've known some people who replaced a food addiction for an exercise addiction-the results were not good.

Great work, Selby. You are doing it! Yay! It's so interesting that Americans are called 'consumers'. As far as the capitalist system is concerned we are what we consume - whether it's goods, services or food. We are just seen as an entity to sell to. So our eating is consuming purchases, and we have the entire business world aligned to shove more food down our throats, while extracting money from our pockets - with no regard whatsoever to our health. We all have realized that we need to take control over this situation, regain our self-determination, and stop cooperating with the scenario that we are merely 'consumers'. Ask the questions: Is it feeding my health?, Is it grown from God's earth without any undue processing or toxins?, Does it contribute not only to my own health, but to the health of the world? (sustainable and equitable farming and production practices), Is it creating garbage that's just filling up the landfills? We can do so much to make our own lives better by the right choices, while also contributing to the health of our environment and communities. Mindfulness in all things, I guess. Junk food is junk in so many ways! It's really a question of freedom from manipulation, freedom to determine our own health and well-being.

"We have become a society of one continuous meal that breaks for sleep and work.... in nature, food is rare" -- made me think of the squirrels foraging outside in the winter -- I feed them too, but -- Wow what a paradigm shift. Thank you for sharing this and BTW BIG Kudos to you Selby! I just spent 500 cal. on exercise bike, so I'm feeling good.
