I am a 61 year old woman with the hope of reducing my weight for my health and to meet my fitness goals of increasing muscle and losing body fat. Up until I was about 45 years old, I exercised regularly and watched all my food choices. In fact, when I was 40 years old, I was in the best condition. This was an accomplishment since I had been an overweight kid, and battled weight off and on for most of my adult life.

Then, menopause hit and I started a more sedentary job...and I also have hypothyroid! I just slowed down and didn't seem to care anymore about my health.

I have done organized programs at the gym, and food programs. I tend to do well for a while until I hit the dreaded plateau...and then I am discouraged and give up. I WILL NOT give up this time.

Grain Brain Diet?
I loved his book - I read it last year. I do no grains of any type, and have dropped off dairy, too. I do high fat, moderate protein and low carb of limited vegetables and fruit. Basically, Perlmutter suggests a ketogenic approach. A site you might enjoy is: www.dietdoctor.com

Site seems to be getting outdated isn't it?
FS always overestimates calories - you can change your RDI to be whatever you choose. At the bottom of the food diary, it gives you options.

low calorie restaurant lunches?
Jimmy John's has what they call "Unwich" which is any sandwich filling in a lettuce wrap. Not like a salad - a sandwich wrap.

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
I weigh daily BUT I watch with the level of hydration, muscle work, etc. I do not log my weight daily - I take averages over a 7-10 day period and just look for the downward trend and only log when I see I am consistently down.
