HCB's Journal, 01 October 2015

Greetings my Best Buddies,

Happy October to all! Another new month to experiment and practice new habits to help myself continue forward.

It has been a strange week - On Monday, I had my annual physical with a doctor who is somewhat new to me. I am doing great and feel well - and what does she want to do? Start tinkering with my thyroid medication! Those of you who have hypothyroid will understand that once you are on a stable dose, you do not want to change things. It impacts metabolism, appetite, sleep, energy levels, body temperature, etc. I said, "No changes, thank you very much." She was not happy with me. I have been on the same dose for over 10 years - if it ain't broke, why try to fix it?

But they did force a flu shot and a shingles vaccine on me. I do not like flu shots for various reasons; and the shingles vaccine caused a huge red bump at the injection site. Geez!

The best part is my lipids were all good! Triglycerides down, HDL up, and LDL in an acceptable range - could be a little lower but OK. Oh - and blood pressure 100/76 and resting heart rate 64 !

SO ALL those who were concerned about ketogeneic diets killing us with all the fat can rest easy now!

Words of the Week:
"To achieve great things, be a great dreamer!"
I am dedicated, determined and diligent.

Very good news on your lipid levels, keep up what you're doing. Fat isn't the problem although hydrogenated fats aren't really good. However sugar, corn syrup, refined carbs cause inflammation which starts the processes that result in plaque buildup in our arteries.

Good check up and the doctor is there for your needs way to go on not letting her fix your medication that is not broke. On a different note shingles really suck and are very painful if you have never had the them before a little sore redness is better then shingles. I had them when I was around 38 or 39 hurt like hell for a month or so.

Nice!! I struggle with the flu shot every year also, do I get it or not? Way to stand firm about your medicine. She may not have liked it, but I can guarantee she will listen to you from now on.

Good for you stating how you feel about your meds. I always get a flu shot as if I get a hint of flu it goes straight to pneumonia. Shingles are very painful, had them a number of years ago, thankfully they have not re-surfaced. Thanks for the reminder to check into that more, I do not want them ever again.

Good for you for standing up for yourself. I avoid doctors, because I get so hyped up and nervous in the waiting rooms that before I'm seen I'm well! :D

Please share us your current lipid levels -- before the diet and current. Am curious... I don't see the problem of eating a high fat diet, provided it's chock full of the poly & mono unsaturated kinds, and not the bad fats. Some bodies are resistant to fat loss, and I've read how this diet can work, especially for those also on medications that fight weight loss.
