I need ideas on how to eat less carbs on a vegetarian diet. I do eat eggs and fish so I am not a pure vegetarian or vegan. I just want to see if there is anyone like me out there and what do you do to eat less carbs. I cannot eat fish every day.

Remember it’s net carbs that matter, not total carbs. Carbs minus the fiber. I have been in ketosis for a year and I eat lots of leafy greens.

I’m predominantly vegetarian, still eat cheese, eggs, occasionally fish. However I’m not doing keto, just decreasing my calories as I lose weight in order to get continued weight loss. I’ve had great success with fresh produce, fruits, and I still have soft boiled eggs for lunch with my strawberries. One member mentioned tofu when I asked about protein. Good luck to you.

Hemp seeds pack a protein punch, with 0 net carbs! I like them on salads, or by the spoonful. My sister loves them in her Greek yogurt. I hope you find something that works for you! 😊😊

Hey there! Eggs, yogurt, and cottage cheese are great, if you’re not vegan! And tofu, nut butter, tempeh, and hemp seeds(as reaofsnshne said) are all great vegan foods. For me, If I were trying to cut my carbs down more, I might go for 1/4 avocado on a bed of mixed greens, with almonds and help seeds and a drizzle of olive oil for lunch, or for a quick snack, maybe try a squeeze packet of nut butter, and 2 boiled eggs. Best of luck!!!!

I substitute zucchini noodles for spaghetti and cauliflower rice for regular rice. Way less carbs.

Peanut or almond butter always saves me.

I'm vegan, raw till 5 to be exact. I've lost 6 pounds this week on 1900-2000 calories. Don't stress so much about carbs. I follow a 70/15/15 rule on carbs/fat/protein balance. I weigh about 250 so obviously you would adjust your calories based on your current weight. I find that whole, uncooked carbs are much better for weight loss.

Thanks all for your comments. I am concentrating on eating fresh food and not eating as much processed foods. I like all the suggestions. One step at a time towards a healthy lifestyle 👍

The only problem that I have is with gluten only because it makes me sleepy and triggers overeating, I don't have a gluten intolerance. I sometimes worry about carbs but honestly without gluten I have to fall back on something (e.g. Oatmeal)

I started as vegetarian and have went whole foods, plant based vegan. I aim for about 1800 calories and I get about 70% of that from carbs. I've stopped counting calories for about a week now and I'm still loosing weight. What I think has helped me the most was getting oil and dairy out of my diet. I know you asked about reducing carbs, but I want you to know there are other weight loss tactics besides low carb.

I’ve been a vegetarian for 25 years. I get protein through eggs (eat a hardboiled one on my lunch salad everyday, high protein yogurt and cottage cheese and beans. I don’t stress too much about it, since studies show many people get too much protein. Like some other commenters, I’ve switched to spiralized and riced veggies to replace pasta and rice.
