DairyKing's Journal, 06 June 2012

Good morning, my FS friends! Slept in till 4 this morning. Still managed to get in a 4.1 mile jog at about a 12:30 pace. Did some experimenting with the Virtual Training Partner app on my GPS to develop some consistency with my pace. According to my Nike+ chart, I maintained a pretty steady pace. I might put this to good use yet.

Did a few pushups. Been trying to develop a habit of periodically dropping and doing 10 or 20 good pushups throughout the day, whenever I need a break from the office routine. Figure I can eventually do about a 100 a day, without the need to shower. :)

DW and doggie did pretty well yesterday. Both ate pretty well; doggie required more coaxing. DW's mouth is not as sore, and her feet don't hurt as much; so it's looking like this phase of the chemo may not be quite as debilitating as the first regimen.

I had heard so much about Greek Yogurt that I bought a couple quarts yesterday - mostly for the dog, because he had been scarfing up my vanilla non-fat yogurt. I figured that the Greek Yogurt would taste like regular vanilla yogurt. I put a couple scoops in the dog's dish, he lapped it a few times and walked away. I thought, "What the heck!" So, I tried a couple spoonfuls (not out of his dish, folks), and Yuck; that stuff was nasty. No wonder he didn't eat it. Tasted like a hybrid of yogurt and sour cream (which I detest). So, I doctored it up with sugar and vanilla, and he ate a little more. DW will probably use it for smoothies.

I applied to work with a local political campaign committee yesterday. They asked me if I lie, cheat, or steal. I told them, “No, but I’m willing to learn.”

Toodles!

HAHA - It's always good to be willing to learn important job skills. I love the Chobani Strawberry greek yogurt. It really depends on the brand. Some taste horrible, others are good. Glad DW and doggie are doing ok.

I think greek yogurt is an acquired taste. One of those things that took me months to like. I still only prefer it in recipes - by itself the texture is odd so I'd rather just have normal yogurt. Glad DW is feeling better, enjoy your day and nice job on the run!

Give greek yogurt another try. Try the Chobani pineapple one. That is my favorite. True the texture takes some getting use to but it can be done. Way to go on the push ups. You should buddy up. One of the guys I work with does push ups with me every Friday. It's our TGIF routine. Have a great day.

I'm sure I wouldn't mind a flavored yogurt. I like regular non-fat flavored yogurt. When I mixed the vanilla and sugar up in the Greek yogurt, it started to taste good, but I thought, "Man, you have to add an awful lot of sugar and flavoring to make this taste good; might as well go buy yourself a smoothie!"

Love the quick wit in your reply to the individual screening applicants to work in politics. Fat Secret & politics - interesting combo. Yogurt & sour cream - crazy hybrid.

I definitely like the flavored greek yogurt (raspberry is good and so is key lime!!) - Found some info on plain greek yogurt in a 'usnews' article: "If you do opt for Greek yogurt, take advantage of its versatility. Mix it with seasonings like garlic, dill, and parsley to create a unique dip for carrots, celery sticks, or cucumber slices. Toss in some berries or high-fiber granola. You can also substitute Greek yogurt for sour cream on tacos, for example, or for the eggs and oil in baked goods. It's an acceptable replacement for fatty ingredients like cream cheese, mayonnaise, and butter. "Its thick texture makes it an excellent swap for mayonnaise on sandwiches, or in dishes like potato salad, egg salad, pasta salad, and coleslaw," "

That's very intersting, Erika. I like the idea of garlic, dill and parsley for a dip. Who'd have thunk that I would buy something to satisfy a sweet toothe and end up using it as a replacement for dip or mayo? Everyday is such an adventure; I can't hardly stand it!

I love greek yoghurt but I know lots of people don't dig on the soured taste of the natural unsweetened stuff. How about teaming it with some homemade applesauce or putting some honey in it?
