peppymint's Journal, 05 January 2012

I'm really disappointed with myself. I let the holidays creep up on me and take over. I didn't even try to stick to my diet. I think that's what getting me down the most... the fact that I didn't even try.

Christmas eve I did weigh in at 137.9, so I broke the 138 mark! I was so happy, but also swept up in the whirlwind of being home with my family that I didn't record it. Or stick to my diet for that matter.

I weighed in this morning and saw 141.8 on the scale. YUCK. That was NOT what I wanted to see. But I guess it was what I was expecting to see.. I've been eating with no regards to calorie counting and not even making an attempt to write down my food intake.

I feel like I'm letting myself down because I've been preaching to new members about the proper way to count calories and lose weight, except I'm not even doing it for myself. That's not fair to my buddies, or to me.

So here we go. I'm officially dubbing this year "The year of finishing."

I resolve to finish losing the weight and maintain 130 lbs
I resolve to finish my education (be accepted and start graduate school)
I resolve to finish the Broad Street 10 mile run, as well as 2 other races
I resolve to finish sculpting my body to a point where I am happy and self confident.
Oh, and I resolve to go on a beach vacation and absolutely rock a bikini. (Not really a 'finishing' resolution, but a resolution none the less)
ONE MORE: I RESOLVE TO BE HONEST WITH EVERYTHING I EAT AND WRITE IT DOWN, NO MATTER HOW MANY CALORIES!

I'm back for good. I really have no excuses now.. I got an iPhone for Christmas, so now I HAVE to record everything I eat.... I can't wait to use the barcoe :)

What are everyone else's resolutions??

Hey Peppymint, I hear you! At least you made the effort to weigh in this year...I haven't gone down that path yet. I was focussed all the way to New Year's Eve but then I made the mistake of thinking that whatever I ate/drank could be worked off in 24hrs. I was wrong. I think all of your resolutions are great and attainable. I am going to run three or four races this year as well. Probably a few 5k and 10k races and one half-marathon just to see if I can. Cheers!

I tracked everything over the hols, it didn't look like it should have done any damage over the week but boy did it. I think it is mainly fluid as the math doesn't add up and it usually does. This means it should come off pretty quick.

I really hope so!! I really need to consider investing in a better scale too. Mine is terrible.

+1 on getting a decent scale. When my ex moved out of my house last year, she took the scale, so I bought one of the weight watchers' branded ones... man what a difference! It is sooo much more accurate than the old cheap one! (compared to what my doctor's scale weighs)

I use an old bathroom scale as well...how much did the WW scale run you?

Hey peppmint, I just now saw that you wrote to tell me good job back in November! Somehow I missed it. Thanks! And I was like you a couple weeks ago, I actually gained 2lbs around Christmas. So don't feel bad because as long as you recognise what you did wrong, you already know how to correct it.:) keep up the good work. Oh andvfor a scale, I use my wii fit balance board and weigh in every week. It seemscto be pretty accurate.

Rico, I have a WW scale and I hate it. It seems to 'remember' my weight, so from day to day, it does not show any drop or gain. My boyfriend and I are actually very similar in weight (he's very tall and thin, bless his soul) and it would say we weighed the exact same, which is definitely wrong. It cost me about $20-30, I can't remember, but I just ordered a new one!

Peppymint, I've had the same issue with my WW scale but when I researched it, I discovered that "sticky" readings are common for most digital scales. The fix: everytime I use mine, I step on it with one foot first and only give it part of my body weight. Then I do my "real" weigh-in and it's different enough that it doesn't try to use the prior reading.
