FatGirlJenny's Journal, 01 February 2016

Good afternoon, buddies!

In enlightment of the Fat Summit & a little other research that I've been off busy doing, I am tweaking my plan a little to see what happens.

1-add a little more fiber
2-add some fermented veggies
3-up my omega 3's
4-eliminate dairy completely, including butter (may use some ghee)
5-try to be get in bone broth more regularly
6-reduce animal protein
7-add a little resistant starch

That's the plan anyway. Hope you all have an awesome day!

Good luck with that new approach. Sometimes we need to shake up the program. It will be interesting to see your results.

Thanks Shea. I read from Dr. Human that a LITTLE "safe" starch (like 1/2 sweet potato) in the evening can help with adrenal issues. So, I'm going to try that maybe every other night, as long as my Carb count doesn't go over.

let me know how it goes especially how/if it effects water weight and if it does how you dealt with it

Will do, ballah. I'be learned that a closed mind is a terrible thing to have.

what is resistant starch?

Dairy has hindered my weight loss in the past. In the Atkins model, 4 oz of cheese daily is a recommended limit. I had to eliminate it completely, and start over. I can tolerate about 2 oz a day, but, most days, I just don't have any. For additional fibre, I eat avocado some days, and cruciferous veggies often. Maybe once a week, I'll have 1/4 of an apple, with skin, or mix fibre stuff in my water and chug. Bone broth is fab! I make a bunch, freeze it, then use it in soups. Your new approach sounds good!!!

@ballah...theoretically some of the good gut bacteria need resistant starch. You can buy it on line which is straight up resistant starch only, or you can cook/cool/reheat starch like sweet potatoes.

@ANNE... I think I'm having a problem with dairy as well. Your plan sounds great! As far as bone broth, I get on the wagon & then fall off. Laziness, I guess...lol. Thanks.

I often modify what I eat in terms of philosophy and what i'm working towards. At the moment i'm playing around with adding in some Brown Rice and Sweet Potatoes, while still avoiding the simple carbs and sugars.

Agreed, Mahjohn! If one never tries it, they will never know. I think my gut flora has a little more healing to do. So, that will be my main focus for now.

Having a plan is half the battle, being cognizant of and deliberate in execution prevents backsliding.

Good luck with your plan Jenny. I appreciate you posting the link to the fatsummit site in an earlier journal. I found the interview with Dr. Ludwig from (I think) day 2 very interesting and informative. Has me thinking, researching and investigating some things. Just curious, are you eliminating dairy due to digestive issues?

jenny, will you be logging your foods? If so, I will watch and learn....Can't wait to see how it goes!

@JMB... You're welcome. I agree, Dr. Ludwig was very interesting. I found something helpful out of each one. I watched them all except Dr. Barnard. I didn't care to hear him talk, because I have no intention on becoming a vegan. I love meat too much. To get technical, I've NEVER had normal BM's (not even as a child). We're talking like once a week for 39 years! lol Terrible, huh?? Anyhoo... yes, digestive issues plus I think it makes me crave.

@Rckc...I will, just for you! 😉

Thank you, jenny! It's so awesome to have people like you be the guinea pig (no offense) to what works, doesn't work, might work, new ideas, new words (starch resistant, I will have to look THAT up)!

Hi Jenny. Yesterday I bought a bag of Spectrum organic whole flaxseeds from Food Lion from their little organic section. You said you are thinking about raising your fiber and omega-3. One and a half tablespoons has 2.9g, 181% omega-3 and 3 g of fiber. 15 oz. cost $5.59.

The best source of resistant starch that I have found is unmodified potato starch (Bob's Red Mill)
