ddrudd's Journal, 17 May 2024

Difficult week. I got so stressed I felt paralyzed and couldn’t work out. I did some rower sessions but it didn’t help the stress. Finally did a light back workout today, and I don’t know what the specific chemical process is in the brain, but it felt like immense relief. I don’t get that from cardio, only lifting. I often tell people I need weight lifting to help manage my mental health and it’s very real, the difference is huge and immediately visible. I would love to share this feeling of relief with others and I am now exploring the idea of finding a job at a gym/YMCA to use my personal trainer certification.

lifting weights releases endorphines and serotonin in the brain

@RN16 yes I’ve heard that and also dopamine and endocannibinoids. I do not understand it but it is such a difference. My favorite feeling really.

Same here! Cardio is so short lived. I feel energized and less stressed after I weightlift!

Agreed. My kettle bell WOs give me physical and mental benefits! Finding a job at a gym sounds perfect for you. Congratulations on your certification.

If you have the Kindle app on your phone or tablet, or a Kindle, the first three chapters of “The Barbell Prescription” are available as a free sample. Good clues to why we feel so much better after lifting.

Sorry you are feeling so much stress. I don't weights, unless a 22 pound kitty counts. But I often feel like walking takes my mind off of daily pressures

@diana and @stormsgirl yes you get it 🙂

@tomlong cool, thank you for the recommendation. I do want to understand this better, I’ll check it out.

@fritzy Haha I think that counts 😄 yeah any kind of movement is good. When I get very stressed I feel like I get mentally “stuck” and it’s hard to move at all. But it’s actually moving that helps me get un-stuck

I’ve always said working out is like meds to me. I don’t have any mental health issues but it works wonders for stress, bad moods, etc. I totally get what you’re saying. 👍🏻

I just learned of “Deadlift Coffee Shop” in Casa Grande, Arizona. Guess that’s double relaxation 😁.
