PaperBagPrincess's Journal, 19 June 2011

I had a wonderful breakfast this morning, it was filling and delicious and healthier than my old habits on Sunday morning for sure. I wish I could always get fresh berries, but even when I do they don't make it more than one day in the fridge. Boo! Fresh produce is such an issue here.

My dog is loving my new snacks - apples, grapes, carrots, snap peas... you might be surprised to hear, but I always feed my dog healthy food and treats, and keep his weight just right. Organic, natural, usa made only, quality ingredients, etc. Kind of awful I put more energy into making sure his diet is so healthy and that his weight be just right. But he is just a dog so it is up to me to take care of him. Anyway, he's getting some of my snacks as treats here and there and just adores it. (He doesn't always get a taste of what I am eating, so it is a real treat for him) Of course, this is the dog who will eat plain spinach that I accidentally dropped, and thinks green beans are amazing when my moms dog thinks they're not even worth consuming. ;)

Awesome lunch, too. I figured since I was having a lazy Sunday, just house chores and a walk with the dog, I should make more of an effort to make healthier meals since it wasn't grab and go.

I'm also finding I can use FatSecret to preplan to some extent. It's not dinner time here yet, but I can see that what I was considering for a quick dinner would still easily fall into my goals. I could also play around a bit, which is awesome ... maybe if I know I'm going to someones BBQ I could see ahead of time about how to plan my meal without feeling overwhelmed or like I'm blowing it anyway and therefore go a bit over the top. :p

On a slightly related note ... I had found out I was *severely* deficient in Vitamin D. (I do live in Alaska. And I'm pasty white, I put on sunscreen regularly if I'm outside, and I often find shade. I love the sun, but I've had a few family friends with melanoma and it just changes your POV.) But when I say severely, I mean I was close to 0. So ever since, I have been supplementing with a high dosage. I'm really beginning to feel the effects I think - in a really good way! I wonder if it might help my weight loss efforts as well. I'm also doing good about taking vitamin c (especially now, after a yucky cold). But the multivitamin is killing me - it's a giant horse pill, and tastes like one too. :p I would also love to do some additional calcium/magnesium, but the same deal ... I so hate facing a pile of giant pills. I know it's silly, but I just don't gulp them down simple like most people seem to. I am going to have to research some easier to swallow options.

LOL, weird! FS is cool, but sometimes how quick things happen throw me off. I was editing the entry as you commented, and when I updated I thought your comment was my update ... I was thinking "What the heck happened here?" :p I've got to make more time for FS and get a little more familiar, more active around here.

Good for you becoming more aware of your own nutrition. Too many people just focus on the scale number! I don't track nutrients specifically because I'm pretty comfortable that my diet is balanced, & due to being low carb I take a multivitamin daily anyway. It's just the generic Sam's Club brand one & I'm happy with it. If you don't want to swallow such a large pill, you could get some Gummy Vites or chewable vitamins. After my husband had his gastric surgery we got him some Flintstone vitamins. :)

I thought I read somewhere (so you may want to google it) but I don't think dogs should eat grapes. I think they can be really harmful, or even deadly... so I would steer clear until you look into it. (just a head's up.) Great job on using the tools here to your advantage. That's what they are there for!!!

PBP-Lol!!!- 'chuckle' :) I've done things like that too! I just saw your update. The Vitamin D thing is a big issue for me as well. I've been trying to get my levels up for several years. It's slowly happening now that I'm more consistent about taking the pills. And yes, I've got some of those "giant horse pills". I think mine are calcium although the multivitamin is not that small either. Try some of the others like Kat suggested. Hope you can find something easier for you to swallow!!!!

Js...yes, I am aware, my dog is large and got one for the first time, no harm in one at his size. :) (Kind of how he loves a m&m on rare occasion.) Thanks though!
