01 January 2012

I wanted to just check in with myself and my buddies here if any still remember me. LOL. I know I came on in a short time, but I wanted to say I have in no way given up on my goals. (And this is not because it's the first of the year that I'm saying as such. Rather, I've finally had a small respite from work to catch up on things.)

Reality? I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition, low thyroid obviously. I fought this last year and the year before with my doctor - not really, but I pushed back and she allowed it to go untreated as it wasn't too bad at that point. With this checkup, however, it had made another jump, enough that she kind of told me flatly that I have this problem and explained that treating it isn't shameful, but rather it will really improve the quality of my life.

I feel good about trusting her. Unfortunately, the first dose I've been on has yet to make a notable difference, and some of the symptoms I'm still having kind of extreme. We'll test again, likely make the dose higher, and just keep trucking. It actually was nice to have her drill in to me that some of my issues stem from this and not just being fat. (I kept insisting that was the issue. IDK, something about having a random immune problem resulting in out of whack hormones embarrassed ... embarrasses ... me.) She has been very good to me and seems understanding that I took this weirdly.

In the meantime, I have tried to just keep going with my goal of eating better and making small choices. I've gotten REALLY good about staying hydrated. I can't give up my morning caffeine with milk based and sweetness, though. :p I guess I'm not quite there, but it's compounded by being SO tired all the time, and having a job in a really hostile work environment - it's exhausting, draining, stressful, etc. and that latte or chai in the morning makes up for it slightly.

I've also discovered my huge, huge love for a chopped salad. Everything teeny tiny, but loads of veggies crammed in. Very little feta added, and just some avocado instead of dressing. I adore it! I wish there was a way to have this daily, but of course it really doesn't keep.

Hmm, not much else on my mind ... I'm loosing weight. Not at the pace I could be, I get that, but it's going down and it feels really great. I've been between 198-199 for a week, and it's incredible to see that I've dropped below 200 for the first in a quite some time. I'm really hoping finding the right dosage of medicine helps, too. I don't expect it to solve my weight issues, but I do really hope it makes the weight come off easier.
