So... Planned to wake up at 5am today and run on our elliptical...

Wait, let me back track...

We've had an elliptical for a while now, but I hardly use it. I never have time in the evenings to work out, so I said I needed to get up and run a bit before I shower in the mornings. Well, since the elliptical was in our bedroom, I couldn't run that early without waking up my daughter in the next room (that thing is kinda noisy!). A couple weekends ago, we got a bunch of junk out of our basement and had a yard sale. Well, this weekend we finally had the time to go back down the basement and finish cleaning it up. We've made it our work-out room. I has a bench and some free weights, an old bike, a pull-up bar and we moved the elliptical down there on Saturday. So - the idea is now I can go run without waking my little girl. Nice idea, huh?

Ok, back to where I started. So the alarm went off at 5am this morning... Know what I did? ...Got up and re-set the alarm for my normal time of 5:30... I know - FAIL! Maybe I'll get up for it tomorrow. I'm going to lay out my work-out clothes & shoes tonight (I didn't do that last night), which may help motivate me to get up. The easier it is to pull on work clothes while half asleep, the better. I was thinking of starting slow anyway. So maybe Tuesdays & Thursdays will be a good start as my body gets used to working out so early!

Wish me luck! I need to do something to lose these last few lbs...

Hope you all have a great & healthy week. :)

You can do it Deb! There's always tomorrow. Can you exercise at night? I'd never get up at 5 AM to exercise, too tired. Maybe after dinner or after the baby goes to bed? Just a thought on trying to find other time for exercising.

Well, the 5am idea is the best I could come up with. I usually don't get to sit down for the night 'till 9pm. And if I exercised then, I'd never go to bed - I'd be too keyed up... Trust me, if I could find another time than 5am, I would! LOL But I only get about 3 precious hours with my girl in the evenings (most of which is spent on dinner, bedtime and a bath), and I'm not giving up any of that time. I wish I could stay home with her, but alas, we need to keep our home! lol

Why don't you try working out at 9? Or how about putting the baby in her pack and play down there for a half hour? I am not a parent, so I could be offering terrible advice that seems like child abuse, so please forgive me.

Well... She's almost 2, so a pack-n-play no longer confines her, lol. Right now, my time with her is the most important thing to me, I just won't give any of that up. She wants me to get down on the floor and play with her, and I'm going to enjoy every second of that. Soon enough she won't want anything to do with me, lol. But I do try to exercise some when I'm playing with her, like doing leg lifts with her on my legs - she loves it! And then at 9pm, that's the small amount of time I have for my husband... There simply aren't enough hours in the day! Plus, you forget I'm old... I'm falling asleep on the couch by 10pm... I do appreciate you trying to think of a better time for me! :) I didn't get up this morning either, but I'll try again tomorrow. (Once again, I didn't lay out my work-out stuff last night. I WILL do that tonight) I'm sure it seems like I'm just making excuses, but I'm making the choice that my family time is the priority right now. I'll get there. And I'll start getting up a little earlier in the mornings, just need to get into the habit. I got used to getting up at 5:30 so I can get ready before Cora wakes up... 5 won't be too much harder to do... And thanks Coach, I will!

Deb its hard to balance work, kids, and our own needs! Right now, your need to spend time with daughter is your most important and that is awesome. We take the dogs for a walk as a family. Our little guy rides him bike and we walk fast. It's so fun. We chatter on and on long our way. One of my favorite mememories from my childhood was riding on the back of my mom's bike. We didn't do it a lot... I was probably only 3 or 4, but I remember the seat attached behind her seat. I would make constant noise and the bumps would make my voice bumpy. it was loads of fun. Perhaps you can figure something out to do with her? A mom and me swim class? mom and me yoga/dance class? Bike rides... strollers walks...

You are telling my story. Mine is almost 3, and the time with her is so limited. My alarm goes off at 5 am, too. Most mornings I listen to it. Sometimes, if the little one wakes up too early, I'll put her in the stroller and she'll come with me while I get my exercise. We look for flowers, squirrels, the newspaper delivery guy. I'm like you -- asleep by 10 most nights!

Good luck Deb!! As soon as the heat gets better, maybe the two of you can go for a walk or something? Anything to get your heartrate pumping! I am sure chasing after her burns way more calories then you think!

Thank you, Radiochick & 140point6! I completely forget to log taking a walk with the family as exercise! We do take walks with Cora and the dog, but we definitely need to do that more. It's good for all of us! It is always fun and makes you feel good. Thanks for reminding me I can count that as exercise! I love your bike story, thank you! :) And I'll have to see if there are Mommy & Me classes, those could be very cool. I'm glad to know there are others out there like me who are struggling to do it all!
