Sandy701's Journal, 17 May 2011

OK, haven't journaled in a couple days. Sunday was my day off from exercise but I was back at 3.3 miles for both Monday and today.

A front came through and we've had highs at about 70 degrees with cool mornings, perfect for dog walking! Always sunny and a bit breezy, so that's always a help for mood!

I still don't have the pool heater fixed but I'm making progress at discovering why. Apparently, one needs a specific license to work on these, in addition to the license requirements for pool building. Then, I THINK there's another license requirement for working on gas lines (for gas heaters, for instance). So, because a lot of people put in a spa/hot tub when they do their pools, it makes more sense for a pool builder to concentrate on the license necessary for gas lines (gas is a faster heater and usually used for spas). I've called many pool builders and they say they're not licensed to work on heat pumps - they refer me to HVAC companies. But, while the HVAC companies have the licensing to work on heat pumps, they lack the license to work on "pool" heat pumps - again, because there's not enough business to make it worthwhile. Now I know why so many pools on the homes we looked at had gas heaters and not heat pumps!

The company that I thought was going to fix it ended up calling and saying they didn't have the right licensure. A few companies and referrals later, I found a company that said they'd do it. Now, it's just a wait-and-see until they actually call me to schedule an appointment to get the thing fixed.

DH relisted a bunch of things, mostly automotive, on CraigsList over the weekend and we've gotten a lot of hits and sold some stuff yesterday. CL is funny that way; sometimes you list and the stuff just flies, other times, it just sits there without anyone even asking about it. I think we'll be busy tonight as we've got a few people committing to come over to buy things after work.

The peanut butter demon has attacked which is bad news. But the semi-good news is that there's no more peanut butter in the house anymore.

I spent some time over on a bookmarked portion of Livin' La Vida Low Carb (or something like that). I ran across the info last year, although it's dated maybe 2008. It postulates that cheese, nuts, and PEANUT BUTTER seem to be culprits when weight loss slows or stalls, even though they seem perfectly acceptable in carb count. I can certainly vouch for the PB!

I'm looking for a treat today....I looked longingly at all the brownie mixes and crackers at the store. Didn't buy any and had a chicken leg when I got home. Not exactly what I was looking for, but whaddayagonnado?

Sandy - I hate that you are having these cravings. This may be a long shot because I know everybody is different but I've discovered something that satisfies my sweet tooth - Celestial Seasonings Blueberry tea (less than 1 carb/cup). It took a little getting used to but now I'm addicted. It might be worth a try?

Thanks Buffy. I'm snarfing everything in sight. Nothing totally out of bounds but just too much of too many plan items. I'll look for that tea. Thanks.

Well Sandy, after you said the PB is stalling for some people I may have to stop eating it for breakfast. I used it as it stayed with me longer than a cereal bar. Gotta find something else to takes its place. Got any idea's????.. Much appreciated..........Bren

Sandy - I have a dumb question - I saw your name on the bottom left hand corner of My FS under the heading "Doing Well". What did you have to do to get there?

Oops - I meant right hand corner. And you just got bumped onto the second page.

Glad to hear you were back walking. I know how much you like your walks with the dogs.:) That's a bummer on the PB too, because I sure do love the stuff. I have to agree with BuffyBear on the Celestial Seasonings teas. They do help with the sweet tooth problems. Hope you had a great day and please send me some of the sun and warmth.lol

Bren, I hear you on how filling PB is. In fact, that's part of the problem. If I'm hungry, it fills the niche quickly and, I completely agree, it stays with you a long time - much longer than a bar. As for me, it's pretty much always eggs for breakfast except for Saturdays when I have low carb pancakes.

BuffyBear, I didn't do anything to get mentioned under "Doing Well" except log in to the site! Truly. I think that's all it is, as I've seen some who aren't doing so well featured there. I think they just rotate people who are logged in.

Laurie, glad to see you stopping by, as you've been so busy! The cravings I've been having are not so much for something sweet, although I guess I WAS looking at all the sweet stuff in the store today LOL! But at home, I'm mostly craving just food...peanuts, of course and just volumes of anything; more eggs, more sausages, etc. If we would have had some grilled steak left over, that would have been perfect. This contractor stuff really stresses me, but I hope that's not what's causing this reaction as I'd hate to think they have that much control over me!! I need to meditate, or pray, or do some positive self-talk, or something. I thought days like this were behind me.

Sandy, sorry that you are having such a hard time finding someone to work on your pool heater. I sure hope you find someone to fix it soon. We no longer use our heater as it is propane and the price has just gotten out of hand. It is a 365,000BTU monster so it sucks that gas down. It is going to take a while before our pool is cleared up and it is warm enough to swim in! As for stresses about the contractors, I hear ya on that one sister....it is one of the most stressful things I have to do! Hope your evening was a relaxing one!

Wow Stef....365,000???!!! Gosh, I thought ours was pretty good - for a heat pump - at 116,000. I guess that's why gas heats everything so much faster! I was still looking to everything last night, but at least things seem to be under better control today.
