Water weight of muscle gain? You can retain more water when you're on your period :)

Hi, just offering some advice. You may be insulin resistant and working out only makes it worse. You were like me, high carbs. Replace some of the ones that convert easily to sugar (breads, pasta, cereal, etc.) with veggies. Your body takes carbs and either uses them for instant energy or stores them in the liver as glucose to use later. Any excess is packed onto your body as fat. The more you control insulin levels by avoiding spikes in insulin (consuming too many carbs), your body will not store as much fat. I believe when stored glucose levels are depleted, your body then turns to stored fat and breaks that down for energy. Most people eat way too many carbs in my opinion and most of them are unhealthy anyway (void of any nutritional value). I keep my carb grams to 100-150 daily. I also eat lots of good fats like olive, coconut, nuts, seeds. Good luck. I have a good article on insulin resistance. If interested I could give you the link.

Mrspackrat is right. You workout as hard and long as you can but if you're not eating right it will show on the scale. What you eat is about 85% of weight control. Lol I made the same mistake. I was busting my butt! Lost a couple inches but weight was staying the same.

Don't fret! Keep tracking it and you'll soon notice a pattern ... often times you may just be retaining water ... stick with it and one day you'll get on and all of a sudden you'll be like what?? cause' it'll go down and remember all the good your exercising is doing for you internally on a physical level! Keep going!!!!! You can do it! Each step, each move, is a step in the right direction!

You got it right Nami_Mommy! I had a trainer at Gold's tell me 80% of it is diet ... if you stop exercising say due to being sick for a week, but eat right your weight will stay right where it needs to be ... been at this for 5 years now and that info you shared is right on!!

Are you weight training? Because muscle weighs more than fat, you may see an increase in weight...However this is a good thing because muscle takes up less space than fat. DON'T GIVE UP!! Stay motivated and try to incorporate more cardio into your training. As the others have said, diet plays an important role, so look over the things you have been eating, as you may need to tweak somethings here and there....Good luck and I know you can get over this!!

All I know us I worked out for 9 months, 4/5 times a week, weights and cardio and no weight loss. I was basically fit but still fat. Part was because I was still consuming too many calories but the main reason was I consumed way too many sugars or foods that converted to sugar. Once I rid my diet of those foods the weight came off. I believe I reversed the insulin resistance through better food choices and supplements (b vitamins, omega 3 fats, vit D and magnesium). Now I can enjoy those foods but do so in moderation.

Okay... step 1. Document everything you eat. Beginning ASAP. That way, you'll see what you're doing wrong and can make the necessary adjustments. Looking at your old diary, you're pretty high with the carbs. Mrs.P has it right. Carbs are killers to diets. Veggies/fruits are the carbs you should be eating. Dump the rest.

ClassicRocker & Mrs. P both have it right! When I dumped the carbs (esp. the white rice, white pasta) the changes started ... South Beach Diet is a heart healthy regimen and explains the science behind dumping those carbs if you want a physiological explanation behind it Great advice ClassicRocker & Mrs. P!!

Hi for me I have problems with retaing water.Salt causes me to swell. It is easy to see if this is it.On the front of your shin bone where you can feel the bone push down for 30 seconds. When you release the skin it should spring back.If it stays indented you may have a problem from eating and drinking salt.I can easily gain ten pounds eating the wrong things. There are alot of natural diuretics.

Don't give up. The numbers will change if u keep doing the right thing. I understand. When this happens, the numbers can never change fast enough.

Hey I'm Deb! Yes it very well could be your monthly visitor. All women gain water weight during this time, even if they've had a hysterectomy like myself. That's what I'm dealing with right now. My weight has shot up, too. And it makes me so mad!!!
