I am having a hard time.

most of you know I suffer from cronic depression, anxiety and stinking bipolar. And my hubby was home for 3 yrs due to an accident at work. He did all the cooking and I was working. Recently (say last 2 months) he went back to work and I quit due to my incredible stress and axiety. ALso my kids are now in school, leaving me home along all day. It is kinda nice to be able to have some quiet time. But then again I am very lonely and i miss my kids' help around the house. (girl 17, boy 11)

They used to help me alot and also my daughter just helped me get focused. I would be able to ask her to do something while I did something else. I am finding that I am so overwhelmed that I cant seem to do anything. Grrrrrrrrrrr

My problem is. I am now having to figure out dinner and prepare it. which It is very hard to do for me. I have been trying my best and getting dinner done 4 out of 7 days. Hubby and kids taking turns the other days. Or we do it together.

ALso we are on a terribly tight budget. Which making healthy meals seems pretty hard for me. SOOOOOOOOOOOOO... I have been just trying to eat smaller portions and have healthier snacks.

Anyways my problem is... I am not really dieting. just trying to eat smaller and exercise more. To...
1) help with the depression= getting out in the sun and exercising.
2) build a routine/ habit of exercising.
3) hopefully lose some weight in the proccess.

How are you at cooking? For me, it's a great release of energy AND I have the benefit of knowing everything that goes into the food I'm making. It also saves me money because I make a lot of things from scratch (breads, sauces, etc.) It's just a thought. I also buy all of my basics at walmart of aldis, and then get the veggies and meats elsewhere. (our walmarts don't carry any of that stuff) I make an extra trip, but I save bunches of money in the process. Just a few thoughts...hang in there lady!

I am an OK cook. I am a much better baker. LOL now I wonder where I got a fat tummy! LOL I have been watching how muych bread the kids have been using cause the will need it for school and snacks. How dumb of me, I have a bread maker and we all love fresh bread. THanks for reminding me. I make some sauces from scratch but some not, just cause some are cheaper to buy like speghetti sauce at $1 or so at walmart. Like tonight my kids wanted chicken fried steak, mashed potaotes and gravy. The gravy is cheaper to make then buy. I make alot of casserols and always serve a salad. (for me mostly) I also buy my veggies and meat elsewhere, just cause the walmart here doesnt really have fresh. well its fresh but looks old. and spoils fast.

casserols are a great way to save money (and time) and use up extra things around the house that will otherwise go bad... we call it "hot dish" in minnesota, but it's the same thing! :)

You sound like me. I am a much better at baking then cooking. My husband did most of the cooking because he owned his own detail shop and would usually close in time to get the kids and come home and make dinner because I worked til 6:00 pm. When he didn't cook we ate out but that got real expensive. Back in Nov I started working from home 3 days a week so I started to experiment with the crook pot. I have a really picky 12 year old and the other two will eat anything as long as there are no veggies in it. (Got that from their daddy). Anyway I had started just trying different things. Most of the crockpot reciepes that I tried where pretty low fat because you don't want a lot of fat with crockpot cooking. Just expreiment and you can always modify a recipe to add things you know your family likes. For the most part it was pretty cheap.

You can do this. The first step is to claim this time as yours. Then you can work on letting go of the stress. Believe me, sister, I know how hard it is. Crock pot, breadmaker, all these wonderful tools you have at your fingertips. How about home made bread and a nice Autumn stew with cheap meat cuts and fresh vegetables? YOU CAN DO IT!

I'm so sorry you suffer form depression, my sister suffers really bad and I know how devastating it can be, I hope you are still seeing your docotor for it, maybe a change of meds is needed?? I wanted to mention also that I love my crockpot! It's amazing what you can do with a lb of ground turkey too! I get a lot of recipes form sparkrecipes.com and adapt them. Sending ((hugs)) (O:
