kmartdollie's Journal, 20 September 2010

I'm back on track now after stumbling over the weekend. Today at work I actually felt dizzy and a little light headed. I know I'm dieting but I'm also drinking a lot of caffeine. The thought occurred to me - I wonder how long I can keep this up? I've been on countless diets before, the longest was a year and a half on the Atkins diet, when I got down to 155 pounds, which at 5'4" is still a bit too much. I've been at this a little less than three months, but I have such a long way to go. I want to lose 80 more pounds, and how long it's going to take is just staggering. So far, my body is cooperating. Diet + exercise = weight loss. I haven't had to use my age (38) as an excuse for a slow metabolism. I'm just worried I am going to hit a plateau. I've been losing 7 pounds in the last 14 days, which is incredibly fast, something I've only experienced on Atkins before. Now I haven't lost any weight in the last 6 days and I'm bummed. I keep compulsively weighing myself - at night I'm like 3 pounds heavier, but I just keep feeling so impatient for the needle to go down. It's amazing how adverse to the scale I used to be. I wouldn't go to the doctor when I needed to because I didn't want to get weighed. My clothes would get tighter and tighter and I would still be in denial, thinking it's not real if I don't get on a scale. Well, now I'm all about the scale. And I'm all about accountability. I've been telling friends and coworkers how much I actually weigh! This is evidently a big taboo for women and for overweight people. I find it liberating. I feel like the more I tell, the more people expect of me and I like it that way - it's added incentive for me to stay the course and make progress.
