Sandy701's Journal, 25 April 2013

I timed my walking yesterday and found I was probably at a 3.2 mph pace, not the 3.5 pace I've been using. I'll wait and adjust it, if I need to, after my hamstrings heal up. They're getting much better, but it's still a bit of a stretch (no pun intended!) to stride out.

It's time for some more yardwork this afternoon, but I need to go get new gas for all the gas implements. I plan on spending most of my time trying to get them all running for the first time this season. When I get tired of pulling and cranking and they don't start up anyway (LOL!), I may do some more raking or weeding, trying to go easy on my hamstrings. DH has the touch to get the engines going, so it's sometimes just easier waiting for him to get home and work his magic.

Tomorrow is another volunteer commitment in the morning, so I hope to get to the gym after that, as well as consigning a few items.

I am sure your pace is down due to your injury, but you probably burned just as many calories moving the sore muscels...besides, you are not That far off, well, IMO anyway. So, I was wondering...Do you hire out? I will get you all the new fresh fancy gas you can use! Nice big yard, & my grass is just starting to grow. At the rate you walk...if you start out tomorrow, you should be here in plenty of time! I could have all the lawn equipment all ready for you....I'd have to have somebody else do it, cause, Me, I am a typical "turn the key & go" girl. The rest of the stuff totally escapes me somehow.

Bren, I have Spectrum, expeller-pressed, unrefined, organic virgin coconut oil. It's in a jar. Haven't used it much but bought it after skimming through a book by Mary Enid, "Eat Fat, Lose Fat" on all the benefits of coconut and its oil. (She's the gal who first highlighted the problem with trans fats.) Her book reads a bit like "everything you ever wanted to fix or cure can be done with coconut oil" but I still think there are some bits of truth there. :) She has a section on the importance of selecting the right coconut oil...Spectrum is one of her recommended brands....also Garden of Life and Omega Nutrition brands. The key is to look for virgin coconut oil which means that it has been "...extracted by a careful method that does not involve high heat and harmful chemicals." "Virgin coconut oil is white or cream colored with a mild coconut flavor," in contrast to a "burnt or metallic taste" in coconut oil that's "industrially processed." (All quotes are from her book.)

GG....if you've got a nice big lawn tractor I can ride on and season tickets to the Packers for me....well, I think we could talk!!! I do miss the smell of WI cut grass. I hear you on the "turn the key and go" because I have ZERO patience for finicky lawn implements!

AHH the smell of fresh gas! LOL. I have an EZ start, no primer mower, HAHAHAHA, I often have to pull that thing a number of times. When I had an older mower, I would build some muscle cranking and cranking and cranking till I just gave up. Hopoe your day in the yard was fun. Next mower will be a rider with a push button to start!

Finicky lawn equipment at my house is standard equipment...worst of the bunch is the chain saw & the leaf blower...they both take considerable swearing to get started & keep running. We never know exactly which phrase works the best, but usually it is which ever one you mutter under your breath LAST that seems to do the trick.

LGM, I have "an understanding" with the mower, so it usually behaves. I HAD an understanding with the old string trimmer, but it eventually died and this new one is the most persnickety implement I've ever owned! DH - who HATES trimmers - can actually get this one running better than I can....go figure.

GG, you must have a gas leaf blower. My electric one never gives me a problem but managing that l-o-n-g extension cord is a major bummer.

LOL...can't imagine how many extension cords I would need. Starting to feel like a vaccuum cleaner...boy, do I hate those things & they don't like me either.
