I feel so disgusted right now!!! After church we had lunch at BWW's because we thought wings=low carb...no brainer, right? Now, I know on Atkin's carbs are counted, not calories. But, you have to pay attention to calories at some point, right?
Well, I got home and logged my lunch--6 parmesan garlic wings/6 medium wings with 1 ranch sauce. According to the food tracker, I had almost 1600 calories with those 12 wings. Add that with my breakfast and I'm already over 1900 calories and I haven't even thought about dinner yet, and let's hope I don't feel the need for a snack!!!
Am I over-reacting about the calories? I mean, do you jut completely ignore them? I don't know if I can, it's just ingrained that you can't lose weight eating high calories.
On top of all this, tomorrow is Monday, my weigh-in morning...and, I'm bloated and cramping!!!
Sorry for the TMI.

According to Atkin's original book, you do not pay attention to calories while counting carbs. I mean, all this fat would make it impossible. Like you, I'm finding the weight loss slow but have only been on the diet since Jan 1 for real, but I had hoped for that 15 lbs the first two weeks. As you said in yesterday's journal, I, too, think my metabolism is so slow. But I also know the body has to adjust to this and also I need more movement. Your wings probably had a lot of salt and the sauces some sugar, so you might find a water weight bump up for a day or so - drink lots of water to flush!

Hi there - it is true that you should watch out for the net carbs and not so much for the calories. That said, the calories should not go overboard. Looking at your food diary of today there is not one net carb coming form veggies so far. I would suggest you go to the Atkins.com page and get some information on how the nutrition should be split up and how to achieve it. It is possible to stay within a certain net carb and calorie limit.

You are right, today I didn't get the veggies as I should. Typically, my veggies come in at lunch and dinner. I also am usually eating food I have prepared too. I have checked out the atkins site, but I prefer to follow the version of the diet from Dr. Atkins and the website promotes the new version, revised after his death. I have read his book and am now skimming through it looking for what he suggests. I agree with the water weight. Fortunately, getting my water is usually not too difficult, I actually enjoy it and usually get in 10+ glasses. But, it's strange, I can actually feel the swelling in my fingers and I am sooo bloated. I am supposed to weigh tomorrow and I am trying to decide if I should skip it this week.

The above posts are well put.. You typically don't count calories - just the carbs and as Jozette99 said you need your veggies - veggies and more veggies.. Today is just one day, you should be alright, but just remember as Elizabeth said those sauces and possible sugar could have made you have that bloated feeling.. Just make sure you drink that water.. Personally as much as you might not like to... I say do your weigh in - just to see how your body is reacting to the foods you consumed today and you will learn from there.. You don't have to share it on the site - you can just make a mental note.. I know how it feels when you "think" you have done horrible and don't want to weight in.. Myself I just suck it up - weigh in and learn from there.. I have the older book and I love it - the New Diet Revolution and I skim through it every so often.. do whats best for you - but you definitely need water, water, water and veggies, veggies, veggies.. Please don't beat yourself up.. One day at a time!
