Girl_Illa's Journal, 13 April 2008

Busy Sunday! First, I confess that I dropped Phase One last night, when the constipation got the better of me. I broke down and had a bowl of Uncle Sam's cereal. Thank you, thank you Uncle Sam!! This morning brought relief!!! I have had no trouble with the eating plan, but my bowels have not been in a moving state of mind--were they hypnotized or something?? LOL

This morning I started with a lite smoothie--1/2 a banana, a few frozen blueberries and cherries, ground flaxseed, ff milk and whey protein powder. I felt better immediately! Now, I'm back on Phase One for a couple more days. Tuesday is my 14th day, and I am looking forward to it!

So. Took off on a shopping play day with some pals. The World Market was our first stop, and they are going out of business!! NOOOOO! Say it ain't so!!! But once I got over it, I realized they were selling off all their fixtures, even. They sold a lot of wine, and my husband has a wine cellar with no shelves. Guess what he's getting for his birthday next month?? Five fabulous wine bottle shelves! He is turning 60, so it's a big birthday. He is going to LOVE them, and ME!!!! LOL

I almost privately emailed you but since this is a concern you, me and many others have/are going through, I wanted to share openly (Hope you don't mind). I struck up a conversation in the dairy section of the grocery store today with a weight watchers follower. She happened to have friends on SB and I told her I have friends on WW through this site. We were comparing some labels and reading them to each other (lol, yes we had just met but we had a blast)out loud to compare them. Some of the weight watcher products were slightly higher in calories, the yogurt we compared, her's (ww)had 15 calories more per serving, the same sugars etc. So I told her, "Id rather go with the less calories since everything else is the same. She said, "But it isn't....the fiber is higher in the ww yogurt, it's zero in the lite & fit zero plus". Fiber? Why would I want a few more calories for the fiber? DUH! Then we compared the light onion & chive cream cheese I had to the weight watchers cream cheese spread. Again, a "few" more calories but the sugars and everything else was the same, but for that fiber! Zero fiber in the philly brand and about 3 in the ww bran. Finally she told me how ww points work and how you look for the fiber. All of a sudden it clicked! With all of my reading and SB information I did see, I for some reason missed how crucial that fiber can be even in those little choices we make every day. I was counting calories, carbs, protien and fat but I never paid attention to FIBER!!!! I would not have been cheating to get in that extra fiber but I didn't even know to look at that! I am SO glad you ate what your body so needed! Good girl! Way to pay attention! You keep up the great work because you are truly ROCKING IT! You inspire me!

I went to a nutritionist a few years ago who told me we need a minimum of 25 grams of fiber a day. Definitely needed to keep things moving.

Thanks for the fiber info! While shopping yesterday, my cousin bought some Fiber One bars. She said she has a problem getting enough fiber, and these keep her regular. So, I bought a box too. Had one last evening, and this morning--they work!! YAY! I have added the fiber count on my food diary so I can watch and make sure that I get 25 grams. Thanks for the tip!!

Great:) My daughter turned me on the the Fiber One bars. I have to make a point of getting some. I haven't gotten my daily fiber intake either. Sandy

You are so right about fiber! When I was on Phase 1 of SBD I had a TERRIBLE experience. I even became slightly toxic because I COULDN'T go. FIBER FIBER FIBER!!! It is tough on phase 1! I am back on phase 1 M-F this week (private mini challenge with KellyBo, we are so competitive with each other!) I had lentils for dinner tonight! ALSO, remember WATER, WATER, WATER!!! All the time!!! Watch the cheese also, not to much! Oh, more WATER!

Just did a quick review of my daily fiber intake by looking over my diet calendar for the month. No wonder I'm having the same problem as many others have! I'm definitely not getting 25 grams of fiber most days. I'll have to work on the fiber, especially this week back on phase I. Too much cheese and not enough fiber. I miss my high fiber cereal and oatmeal already!
