Sandy701's Journal, 06 October 2012

A very pooped person writing this journal entry....4.3 miles logged for the challenge, bringing the cumulative total to 12.7 miles which will stay that way until Monday. I walked 4.2 miles and swam an extra tenth.

I just got back from a productive mall trip....got the items I wanted at the Hallmark Ornament Open House event and also made the first visit to the jewelry shop near the mall that will be repairing my wedding ring. Over 5 years ago, the diamond popped out and, due to having gained so much weight, I had to have my DH cut off the now-empty band. The prongs that had held the diamond were just sticking up and would have caught on everything in sight! I was thankful the diamond popped out at home where it was easy to locate rather than having come out during a trip a few weeks prior, somewhere in an airport or in a hotel or who knows where else!

I've been postponing the repair due to embarrassment and also because I wasn't sure who I could really trust to do the repair correctly....the band is now pretty mangled and the prongs aren't too pretty either! But, in defense of these rings, I had worn that engagement ring DAILY for close to 30 years....I very rarely took it off. In fact, had I been taking it off regularly, I'd probably never have gotten to the point where I couldn't take it off any longer due to my weight. Because that ring wouldn't come off, I also postponed my colonoscopy, knowing that they'd require me to remove the ring prior to going under anesthesia, and I couldn't get it off at that time. So, in a very strange way, the stone popping out was a blessing, as it got me to get the band cut off and then a few months later, I did eventually get that colonoscopy done, as I should have.

Now, at nearly my wedding weight, it's time to get this ring repaired and back on my hand where it should be.

Bren, I have missed wearing that ring because I basically never took it off until we cut it off. Plus, I really love the unique setting, even now after all these years. You know, it took probably well over a year for my finger to return to its normal shape, as the ring had seriously reshaped the base of that finger due to me gaining all that weight over the years. At least now, looking at that finger, it looks perfectly normal....but it took a LONG while to get back to its regular shape. Just another sad by-product of gaining weight.

I haven't been wearing my engagement ring because of loose prongs. I really would like to get a less plain setting so I have been putting it off due to financial considerations. It seems like something more important always comes up to spend the money that I try to save for the ring!! I am glad that you are getting yours repaired!

Sandy - that is wonderful that you are getting your ring repaired. You must really feel good about yourself. And being close to your wedding weight - isn't it time for a second honeymoon?
