Sandy701's Journal, 20 September 2012

3.1 miles walked this AM; 2.3 of it with doggies. Beautiful day but you can tell the warmer temps are heading back here...

Last night, I mowed the front yard to take advantage of these cooler temps. I intended to get the back done today, but cleaning the rugs and carpet took too long. By the time I finished, I had lost my gumption, so mowing is moved to tomorrow. Didn't get my intended shopping done either, so that is ALSO moved to tomorrow.

At least the master bedroom is just about ready to move back into. The upheaval in the house with everything out of place, is one big headache.

I realized today that Thanksgiving is just 9 weeks away! I need to be back at my goal weight by then so I can stand a reasonable chance of staying within my 5-pound range going through the holidays. If I start out on the high side, I'll probably go beyond the 5 pounds. So, it's time to buckle down and get this done! I'm finding that this Maintenance phase is just as challenging as the other phases, just in a different way.

Maintenance is harder than losing because the excitement is gone. You have already reached your goal so now there is nothing new to aim for. I know I've mentioned before (because I fully intend to be in maintenance soon)that I think we need to activate one of those dormant maintenance groups on here. There must be some mental challenges to keep "staying the same" as exciting as losing. Anything you come up with, please let me know. I'll be your biggest cheerleader!

You have done great, Sandy! Look at all the energy you have now too. You are doing some major house cleaning. Well done!

Geez Sandy, I think you are doing awesome at this maintenance thing, I failed miserably at it. Practice makes perfect right? RIGHT! We never quit, we never give up. I don't think any phase is exactly easy when we are doing it, in hindsight, it always seems to have been easier. With all the choices that we are lucky enough to have available to us, there is no question in my mind that I will forever be struggling for balance.

Buffy, I finally took a look around for those Maintenance groups and you were right about inactivity. The most active, and largest, group is comprised of any "dieters" in Maintenance mode, but I'm not sure that's where I want to be. I'd prefer to be in a low-carb or Atkins group and they're not too active. We'll have to come up with something.....

Bren, I think I could take a breath and gain, but it takes SO much effort to drop. Well, no use fighting it, it is what it is.....just got to adjust (I hate adjusting...). LOL!!!

Sandy, it very true that my energy level is a whole lot higher than it used to be. Funny thing....I never thought it was low, but now I see that there's a world of difference!

GG, I don't think you've failed at Maintenance at ALL!!! I went back and looked and you've maintained within a 10-pound range for an ENTIRE YEAR!! And that was with an assortment of injuries, stresses, and the "approaching change." I hope I can do as well.

Another person who hopes to be looking for an Atkins maintenance group within a few months - I agree that maintaining is hard work -- my OWL has been almost as slow as maintenance sometimes, lol.

with all you've accomplished, you can make maintenance work too! You know it's important and you're focusing on it - maybe you need rewards for maintenance just like we always gave ourselves for losing weight? Every month you maintain, you get a pedicure or something like that.
