GlennM's Journal, 10 August 2012

Calorie Intake August 10th, 2012: 1620 calories. Doing OK. I am trying to get a surgical consult for my back. It is either that or stronger narcotic medication; which I do not want. Long-term narcotic usage is not good. Much of my pain is in the upper back. Otherwise, doing OK ---- trying to finish up the second book, which I will be sending out with book 1 either the end of this month or in September. Book 3 is done except the final draft, but I will send the other two out in the coming weeks to literary agencies to try to get a publishing deal. I hope everyone is OK and I will try to get on buddies' journals this weekend. It is easy for me to do under 2,000 calories a day now. One trick is having a few of those small low-fat yogurts for a meal or snack and it is 160 calories or so for two and they fill one up very, very well for hours.

Good going on the weigh loss. Also happy you are looking into other options on your back.

I just read a great article about how we get less hungry on lower calories when we eat high nutrient density foods. I posted it in my journal if you're interested. Great job on the books, I hope to get up to your pace in that department! And I hope you find something that works for your back. you've probably tried massage already?

Hi Buffy - I am looking now, yes for other options. Cindy- massage is too much of an expense. I will look on your journal Cindy - now and try to find it.

Cindy- I can look online for nutrient dense foods. I have to be careful with the pain patch - it causes constipation. But I did have about 2,000 calories today. I am on the right track now. I hope everyone is having a nice day, we had a storm here in Northampton, Mass. and there were even some funnel clouds and some rotation in about four areas. I was surprised at how calm I was - I was outside the Big Y grocery store and it was happening in the sky to the west, then a few minutes later one cloud to the west. Yesterday a tornado watch here - nothing today - I sure wish I had my camera that videotapes stuff, I am carrying it with me everywhere from now on. The storm dissipated on the bus ride home quite quickly - fortunately!

one cloud went off to the east not the west and it looked like it was dipping too - a dark, blue gray color, and then the storm moved fast to the southeast. That was around 6 p.m. - now we're having a thunderstorm again here at 10:30 p.m.

I found out it is likely that a long series of things needs to be done for my insurance to pay for surgery. I have 'three' pinched nerve areas. My pain management doctor can see my spine and all that too. They know where the problems are. I am doing well. Everyone seems to be in a mood to argue - friends anyway...

Glenn, have you tried your local massage school? It might take a couple tries to find a good student, but here you can get student massages for only $25/hour.

I didn't know you lived in Northampton! My sister lived there until very recently.

Hi Cindy - yes I was born here! (My twin sister and I were the largest twins born at the local hospital). I may be able to get massage through physical therapy, but he seemed to want to write me off as too far gone with the pain. Northampton is a very cool college town. It is very liberal though - lesbians especially move to here from all over the world.

Ha, my sister is not a lesbian (not that I would mind if she was!) but was in Northampton living and working with two friends- a lesbian couple- while figuring out her next step after college. Now she is off to Kansas to get her master's degree in Anthropology. Glad you like it there, my sister did, too- she said there were many cute boys :) Good luck getting the massage therapy, it won't hurt to get some massage on some part of your body if insurance will pay, even if it doesn't entirely solve the back problem.
