Happy Weekend, Best Buddies!
Finally, had another assessment with my trainer at Orange Theory Fitness today!
I came down another 3.5% body fat since our last measure about two months ago. And, I am around 29% body fat. This may still sound like high number but for my age and gender (60 year old female), it is starting to be in a better range. I was down seven pounds, too.
My goal is to get to 25% body fat and lose pounds down to my initial goal weight. I do not care how long it takes - but improved body composition is my ultimate goal. Click to check out this chart for the "average" woman. This may be the only number for me that is not overweight or obese!

Well done, H! All that work is paying off. I checked my BMI today, and found that I'm now only 9 pounds above the upper limit of the 'healthy' range! That gave me a bit of a boost 😀

THAT is a real accomplishment Heidij123 - my BMI likely still still considered obese because I am only 5' tall - and it is a measurement of height /weight ratios!

You're doing great HCB, fantastic accomplishments. I don't think a whole of of "charts". Maybe they're ok as a guide of sorts but we are all different people and many of us just don't fit the chart models. When I was in the best shape of my life, probably 17 to 25 years old, I had excellent muscle definition and a very good physique. However according to the charts I was overweight. Those charts will always say I'm overweight no matter what. So to hell with the charts, you have to go with what you see, feel, and know about yourself. You're 60 years YOUNG and doing great, the work you're doing actually makes you physiologically younger each year. Ever heard of that book? Great read, I recommend it. Keep up the good work, you're one of my inspirations here and I enjoy reading your journals as you progress!

That means you lost nearly 11% of your body fat in just 2 months!! You do know how awesome that is, don't you?!

Wow! I am in awe! :) You know, I found there is a BMI calculator for tall people that differs from the general formula. I wonder if there is one for people of smaller stature. I remember a woman I worked with who was one of the fittest, most active people I knew, but she was overweight in terms of BMI because she was short. It is not a perfect system by any means.

@ losinit1655 - I have not lost that much body fat! I lost 3.5% in TWO months; but since I started these gym challenges in April, I have lost a total of 8.5% bodyfat!
|
You have tremendous drive.

Thank you CR - I really think it has been since I added the coconut oil, butter and Bulletproof Coffee - the energy level I have from running my body on fats instead of sugars (carbs) is amazing.
|
I didn't phrase that right/well -- I was trying to say that your decrease in body fat (from 32.5 to 29) represented an 11% drop? Impressive no matter how it's framed or calculated!! :)

That is awesome for you!! Yikes for me, you don't even want to know where I fall in that chart!! I'm glad to hear you're doing well, and I know you'll meet those goals! You continue to be an inspiration :)

You are doing amazing!! I have no idea where my body fat lies. I just know there is slowly less of it. There is a separate BMI table for athletes. I really think some of it also depends on your frame.

Wow, wish my insurance company had that chart! I'd be in fit instead of overweight! But you are doing great and constantly improving. Good for you! Congratulations.

I have only recently been aware of fat mass when a machine appeared near me and I found that despite having a BMI of 22.2 I had 31% fat which is quite high. Like you I am looking to slowly reduce this to about 27% which seems a bit better for my age group (48) I think my BMI needs to be at the lower end of the scale as I have size 4 feet despite being 5ft 7ins. I most probably have small bones. It sounds like you are doing great!
