Four years ago, after a lifetime of medical ailments, infertility and sudden bouts of weight gain and loss I got pregnant, got preeclampsia and topped out at over 340lbs. Giving birth let me lose 25lbs, but my blood pressure continued to spike up into the 150's. My new doctor put me on a mild blood pressure medication and immediately dropped another 20lbs! We ran every test under the sun. It turned out I had slightly elevated blood sugars (107 - 100 and under is normal), but my A1C was over 12! A1C should be under 7 to be normal. I was not diabetic, but definitely insulin resistant. I went on Metformin and over the next year I lost another 30lbs, my sugars were 74 and my A1C was down to 4! I KNEW I was not crazy! My weight problem wasn't because of what I was eating, or so I thought. I was still 120lbs heavier than my "normal, healthy" weight. I suffered severe tonsillitis every few months and was sick ALL the time! After ending up in a hospital on vacation 2k miles away from home, I finally gave in to needing surgery. The ENT surgeon only had to look at my throat once and talk to me for five minutes before scheduling me for surgery. Tonsillectomy at almost 30 was not going to be fun. He also ran a battery of allergy tests because he was convinced that ALL my medical issues were either related to or complicated by something I was allergic to. Sure enough, it turns out that I am allergic to YEAST, molds, wheat, sugars, etc. All the "healthy" foods I had been eating had all but killed my immune system! I went on a really strict allergy diet for three months. I was a completely different person AND lost another 26lbs right away! The diet is not easy, and sometimes I start slipping, but I have felt so amazing and have seen my weight steadily decrease just by staying away from the things I’m allergic to! After more than 2 decades of trying to figure out what was wrong with me, now I know! I can hardly wait to be reunited with the woman I was meant to be!
