Here I am.. back on the wagon just in time for the new year. I hate that I flopped on the plan a few months ago. I started a new job, had three consecutive deaths in the family, and then of course "the holidays".. murdered my progress. But I'm not that far off course. It's not like I gained twenty pounds. So it's back to square one and I am vowing that this will indeed be a new year.

gaining 0.2 lb a week

It's been a rough week. I had a tragic death in my family and it's been hard to deal with. Another relative was also in a terrible car accident and is battling in critical condition. I've realized that it's tragic and stressful times that I totally disregard healthy eating habits and turn to comfort food. It's totally subconcious and I've never realized how connected food is to my emotions. I haven't messed up terribly.. no binging, just too many high calorie foods.. even waffles this past weekend. I'm not going to dwell in guilt. I'm just moving forward and getting ready to begin a new challenge and possibly starting the South Beach diet soon. My little sister is graduating high school tomorrow night and I couldn't be prouder. Things are looking up and hopefully the weight will be going down.

It's been a good week for me. I slipped up and ate a few bites of one of my husband's snack cake and realized that it was way too sweet. It didn't even taste good & kind of made me feel sick. I also sipped some soda at a friends house the other day & nearly gagged. I guess that's great. I'm almost over my sugar addiction, yay! I still crave it from time to time but I'm getting over that, too.
I've recently discovered that I have an insulin sensitivity that results in my body not processing sugars and carbs very well. Eventually, I will have diabetes unless I stick to low carb and remain as active as possible. I also have Acanthosis Nigricans, a condition that is a result of the insulin problem. This is usually common in obese people and is identified with dark colored skin on the back the neck and can also be on the elbows and knees. I only have the dark color on my neck and it's embarrassing. I always wondered what it was. I thought it was dirt when I was younger & played lots of sports. I recently consulted my physician about it and that's when I was diagnosed. I have to give up sugar & go low carb in order to change this! I really want to be able to wear my hair up in public without hiding it under polo shirts.. yes, this is affecting me dramatically.
Although i'm not considered obese, I am overweight & I really have to do something about it. This is life threatening & I need to realize the severity of it! My grandmother died in her 50's from diabetes. My great-grandmother on the other side died from diabetes at 62. Heart disease also dominates both sides of my family. I want to be healthy! Being thin will just be an added benefit.
I've decided to begin a low carb diet. Either Atkins or South Beach.. I'm researching now to decide which one is best. I'm reluctant to change my diet status because I don't want my weight chart to change. But maybe that will be the motivation to lose more. I'm also working on starting a new challenge for those of us who don't need to lose 50+ lbs.
Here's to new beginnings! :)

Two more pounds down.. thirty to go! :)
I cheated a little over the weekend. I had a slice of pizza at my mom's Saturday night. It was tiny, though! And yesterday my husband brought home barbeque. I had a little but I filled up on veggies first. I think that if I make it through the week I should deserve a little "wiggle room" on the weekends. And I didn't gain so I don't really feel guilty. Now it's back on the horse.

losing 2.8 lb a week

After so many road blocks on this weight loss journey, I've finally chalked it up to I WANT TO BE HEALTHY. Being thin will be an added bonus to that but I really just want to live a long, active life. I've been doing really great. I've really been focusing on the veggies and fruits that I love (broccoli, carrots, cucumbers, strawberries, and watermelon). I've found that eating right is not as hard as it seems once you get on track. It actually feels great and you can realize how bad the other junk made you feel.
