Hello all! I am a 41 yo mother of four daughters. I did the "slow gain" with packing on 10-12 lbs a year for 10 years. I joined last fall (9/2010) at 262 lbs. I had figured I was getting older and getting fat was just inevitable...well not quite!

I found out last fall that there was a reason for the weight gain: insulin resistance. Yeah, I had never heard of it before either. So I investigated and discovered that with diet it can be controlled and eliminate the need for medication. So I started a diabetic diet and dropped around 25 lbs with the help of FS by tracking everything I put in my mouth....then got busy and stopped recording everything and regained 4 lbs over the next 5 months.

I joined a gym in May and worked out sporadically until 2 weeks ago. I decided that I needed to drop the other 100 lbs so that I am a much healthier weight. For me it has nothing to do with being skinny but with being a health and fit person. So I started with a personal trainer.

So between him and the support of you guys I hope to be half the person I am now in a year.

Hang in there.... I am restarting my healthy eating again. Was doing fairly well until a car accident in August derailed me being able to go to the gym. Since I couldn't exercise I let myself fall into really unhealthy eating habits again... so I am with you on needing to reestablish a healthy pattern. We can do it, just gotta stick with it... the food diary really helps me!

Camille - That is essentially what I am on... They suspected that I was insulin resistant back in September so I started the recommended diet for the condition and have felt much better since I did.

The diet I am currently on is based on a maximum of 30g of carbs in any given 2 hour period with those being balanced by 15g of protein. I eat 3 meals a day along with 3-5 snacks. Read this as I eat every two to two ans a half hours. RDI is set at 2200 calories and my daily balance of carbs is always less than 50%. So I would think that 50% is on the high side. With just balancing everything in this way and eating more often than I ever have I have dropped from 262 - 237.5 as of today.
