I am a 68 yr. old woman...my body feels 100, but my mind, heart, and spirit tells me I am in my 30's, (the decade in which my 4 children were born...3 daughters, including a set of "mirror twins", and my son). I also have 2 grandsons, Wyatt will be 4 this Dec,'16, and Oliver turns 8 weeks old tomorrow. I am a native New Yorker, (and very proud of it) but have been living in N.E. for the past 38 years, minus the 2 years I spent in S.C. and the 2 years I lived in Alaska. I was 9 lbs. 2oz. when I was born, and went from being a chubby infant to being morbidly obese, (God, how I HATE that expression), by the time I was in my late teens, and reached my highest weight of 430 lbs at age 52 in the year 2000. At that time, I got very serious AND extremely scared because of extreme health issues and started a healthy food plan...losing 255 lbs. in 2 1/2 years. I, of course "yo-yo dieted during most of my adult life, losing 100 plus lbs. at least 4 to 5 times until I lost the 255 lbs, and DID manage to keep most of the weight off until about 5 years ago when I had a number of surgeries, (mostly on my knees), became much less active...started eating more again, (mostly "carbs...and lots of them), and slowly started packing on the lbs. again. HOWEVER, it wasn't until 3 1/2 years ago...when my youngest daughter died of a drug overdose that my life turned upside down. I became extremely depressed, lost my motivation to do just about everything I enjoyed, (writing, reading, painting, baking...(it had been my career for many years), socializing, etc., and have spent my time since Becky's passing, laying in bed, watching movies, crying, and of course EATING...lots and lots of high carb, high fat EATING! It was only after getting up to 300 lbs again, that I finally decided enough was enough and 11 weeks ago went on a low carb diet...and have lost 30 lbs so far! I already feel better, no longer lay in bed all day, and am now getting out more often,,,and not just to Dr.'s appts..

Waring Blender Brain!
I am a VERY "Emotional & Stressful Times" Eater, and when I DO get stressed...I do 2 things...I think about the stressful things, and those thoughts just go round and round and round in my head, like a "blender" on high...and then I convince myself that the ONLY thing that will calm me down, and stop the voice in my head that is saying, "Just a cookie or 2, maybe a couple bites of ice cream...oh, and here's a good one, because I'm doing the low-carb, higher fat diet...my brain tells me it's o.k. to have a LARGE portion of cheese and pepperoni...as long as I add in a handful of olives!!! WRONG! Soooo...has anyone else run across this problem, and found a way to shut the old brain off, and stop the "You need to eat something" messages from keeping a person up half the night??? ANY suggestions would be greatly appreciated...aside from having someone knock me over the head with a frying pan! LOL. Thanks.Rolling Eyes Question

I'm the "New Kid On The Block"
Can someone explain to me what the "quote" thing is about? And how do I ask someone to be my "Buddy", and how do I accept? I'm still really kind of lost! I think I've figured out the "Journal", "Recipes", etc. Guess I'll just have to spend some time on the site to figure things out! Question: Do members sometimes join more than one group? Oh, and what does "go advanced" under this Quick Reply box mean? Sorry...too many questions. As you can tell, I'm a "Talker"...LOL...but better chatting than spooning in a pint of Ben & Jerry's into my mouth, which I have definitely been known to do. BUT, now that I've been doing low-carb for a while...the "cravings" are really lessening! TY for allowing me to rattle on! I know I'm going to have a lot more questions, but I'll save them for another time. Uh...lol...just one more...lol. The bio I wrote when I first joined...where do I find that if I wanted to read it? I forgot a lot of what I wrote...and my kids tell me I often repeat myself...so I don't want to be a "pain" should I start doing that. O.K. REALLY signing off this time. Hi Everyone! Not sure how all this works...but I answered all the questions and wrote a short bio, (actually, it's quite long...lol...I love to talk) but I'm hoping this will be a good experience.
