Well I've done it again. Lost some more weight! This week I was more disciplined in the number of calories I consumed AND I stepped up the pace of my workouts. Yay me!

Honesty is the best policy.
I had a dissappointing week on my diet and exercise program. I did my official weigh-in on wednesday. I had only lost 1lb. Although this is technically a weight loss I still found it discouraging. I restarted my diet on Dec 27th. I was expecting much more lead time before I reached a weight plateau. Immediately I went into rationalization mode. "Oh it must be because I'm exercising and putting on muscle blah blah blah." But the truth is, excuses aren't actually helpful when you're giving them to yourself. Could I have followed my diet plan with more discipline than I did? Yes. COULD I have worked-out harder than I did? Absolutely.
Do I like actually doing these things? Not really. Humans are conditioned to expect immediate gratification and diet and exercise confound this expectation. Its a wonder we ever invented agriculture. Its much easier to say, "I'll scarf down this Big Mac and wash it down with a beer or six and be happy now," than to say to yourself, "I'll be disciplined and watch my calories every day and a week later I might have lost 2lbs." Is it "fun" to turn on the Xbox Kinect and do aerobics with the virtual trainer? Or is it easier to create a fantasy avatar who already has wash-board abs and never gets any fatter?
Honestly, I don't like to diet and exercise. I wish I had the type of body and metabolism of those jerks who can eat whatever they want and still have wash-board abs. Wishing won't make it come true. Its just takes discipline and time.
