My name is Trevor. I'm a 33 year old gay man living in Colorado Springs, Colorado. My partner Ben and I have recently taken an interest in improving our fitness level. In my experience watching my diet is easier than regular exercise. However I've come to the conclusion that neither one will be as successful unless the twin disciplines of diet and exercise are both observed.

I have struggled with my weight over the years starting in my late teens when at 19 I weighed 245lbs. At 6 feet 5 inches tall I've often heard, "but you're so tall you certainly don't look fat." However, a simple glance at me shirtless confirms my beer-belly.

Whey Protein Powder - Got advice?
I like EAS Whey Protein. Its 120 calories per serving and has about 23 grams of Protein. I've only tried the vanilla but I hear they also make unflavored. My boyfriend says I must have stainless steel tastebuds because I like to mix it with coffee instead of cream and sugar.

I prefer the vanilla to the Chocolate flavors only because vanilla goes with everything. Protein powders tend to get clumpy. The trick I've found is to blend up the berries, ice, juice, etc first and then slowly pour in the powder while the blender is running. If you a daring enough to try the coffee method the opposite is true: Put a couple spoonfuls of the powder in the mug first and pour coffee slowly on top. Razz

Surprise Benefits of Weight Loss?
I had to quit drinking in order for my diet to work for me. I had read that people who exercise in addition to dieting have an easier time getting over their drinking problem. I didn't put much stock in it but I figured "what the heck?". Well I discovered that I didn't know how crappy I actually felt while drinking until experiencing how good I felt after a workout.

Protein
If you ask me you're on the right track. Getting enough protein in your diet is VERY important. I'm of the opinion that all diet plans work basically the same way: Net calorie reduction. However extremely low-calorie crash diets don't work in the long run because your body starts thinking it is starving and reduces your metabolism to compensate. Protein seems to be the key indicator; get enough for your body's needs and you can lower other calories safely.

Its good that you found a product that you like but I'd advise you not to get carried away with it. Protein does have calories. Thankfully protein helps you feel full and it is harder to digest than fat or carbs. My favorite form of protein is whey protein. I usually find it in powder form and it comes in a variety of flavors. I find the plain or the vanilla flavored works best for me because I dissolve it in my coffee instead of cream and sugar.
