30 April 2024

FYI: This is not a food post, nor is it an excuse.
I have been quietly absorbing what is going on with all of my FS community for the past few months. I have been drawing strength from all of you. For that I will be eternally greatful. I have frequently said that you never know how many times you are lifting others up.
I am just trying to wrap my head around the crazy upheaval that has been my life for the last several months. I have always been a Christian and also believed the saying "what does not kill you makes you stronger". God has way more confidence in my strength than may be warranted.
In December my youngest Granddaughter (14) had to have emergency surgery to remove an ovary and the baseball size mass that had developed on it. She recovered amazingly but very scary.
January brought a funeral dinner at our church for 60 people. I cook the main dish, potatoes and the bread/rolls, and coordinate the salads and desserts.
The oldest Granddaughter had an ugly breakup and had to move for her safety. She's 6.5 hours away and the temperature was 15-25° below zero.
Got home from that adventure to find that we needed a major furnace repair. No problem it's under warranty. Only the installers who are retired, neglected to send in the warranty registration. $$$!
Hubby's ex-wife, Dena has been quite ill for over a year. She entered hospice care. She and I have been good friends for 50 years and were even in business together for several of them.
To finish off the month, a baseball size mass was found on a lymph node near the liver, during a scan of Hubby's lungs. He smoked for 57 years. Stopped 6 years ago. The VA wanted the scan during a routine physical. Lungs look as though he never smoked. This was the beginning of the 3 months of biopsies, scopes and quarts of blood testing.
Dena passed away the 4th of February. It was really tough for all of us, especially the kids.
On a good note we found out we are going to be Great Grandparents. The baby is due on Hubby's birthday in October.
Then March brought funerals for 2 friends on the same day. Then after a needle biopsy of the mass, a cancer diagnosis for Hubby. He begins Chemo/Immunotherapy on the 2nd of May.
Son turns 55 on the 5th and Son-in-law turns 50 on the 6th.
I know this has been long and confusing. Believe me I've lived it and it took posting this, to grasp how crazy life has been. I am so thankful for the support that I draw from this community. You have no idea how many times you have helped me get through the trying times.
I'm trying to eat healthy and not lose sight of my need to maintain my health, in order to sustain others. Thoughts and Prayers are welcome. I know that this is the support that I need. Thanks to all of you that have been there for so long.

I returned to the stricter logging and planned eating a week ago. I have lost 3.8 in the last week. The 11.4 that are left should not be a big issue. The pool where I have been doing water aerobics reopened after being down for 6 weeks to recondition. Since I have been back this week, I am doing 2.5 hours in the pool 3 times a week. Really feels good to get back to it! I'm thinking about trying the weight machines again since the shoulder isn't complaining right now. Just have to be careful not to aggravate the area where the bone spur is in the upper right bicep region.
We've been taking advantage of the time off of aerobics to super clean, moving furniture and washing walls. PURGING all that "Stuff"!
I have been lurking with the occasional comment, but I'm back for a while in earnest! Blessings on all of your life passages! Prayers for those who are struggling!

22 August 2023

Today is my birthday. I am 68 years old. This is a year of reflection for some reason. There's several landmark ages and anniversaries this year, so that may be the reason. August is just one long celebration. The 1st is Granddaughter birthday, the 16th is SIL birthday, the 17th is youngest daughter/SIL 25th anniversary, the 21st is oldest daughter birthday, today is youngest daughter 45th birthday and my birthday and the 27th is middle daughter's MIL birthday. The slight uptick in weight is expected and temporary. We have the last weekend gathering here Saturday. SIL is smoking Ribs, Sirloin Roast and a Turkey. There should be about 18 people here for this one. We divide the leftovers for the 6 households. Everybody gets a cooking break.

Maintenance has found me for the most part. I have bounced around within about a 10# +/- range for the last 15 months. I am still deciding if I want to loose another 10 to 15#. The doctor says she's happy with where I am, and my body seems to be as well.

I still check in and read your posts. Sometimes I respond, mostly I'm just coasting right now. I cannot over state how much this site and the wonderful supportive people on here have helped me to find a Happier and Healthier Me. Ultimately it's everyone's personal journey, but the support and mutual celebration of struggles and successes in this community are invaluable! May each of you feel the warmth and comfort when you need it most!
