24 March 2011

183.4 to 179.6 this week. Almost 4 pounds. Not sure why. I haven't really changed anything except I didn't have any beer this week (I think), but I did have a few glasses of wine and a few meals out. I've also been eating a lot of almonds. Way more than what is supposed to be allowed after induction. I've also been having quite a bit of peanut butter. Maybe my body is just contrary and does the opposite of what it's supposed to do. It wouldn't surprise me one bit. I haven't had much dairy though so maybe that's it. My mom sent me a big box of gourmet cheeses for my birthday which is tomorrow so I'm sure I'll be digging into those soon so we will see what happens. Also, birthday weekend. Could spell trouble. I'm going to spring training baseball games over the weekend which is what I do every year for my birthday. I don't get to see the Cardinals during the regular season, but I live about an hour away from where they have spring training so I try to get to a few games while I can. I know beer will be consumed and maybe a hotdog or bratwurst or big soft pretzel. I really don't think I'm strong enough to resist.
Several years ago when I still lived in St Louis, I went to a baseball game and couldn't resist the smell of bratwurst so I ate one. You wouldn't think that was a big deal normally, but I had been a vegetarian for 7 years prior to that day. Much beer drinking preceded the feasting, but on that day I started eating meat again. Not only did I have that bratwurst I followed it up with a hot dog and then after the game we went for the best burgers in St Louis at O'Connell's. Needless to say I was sick for nearly a week. Some things you should ease yourself into, such as eating meat for the first time in 7 years.
My hubster took the day off work tomorrow so we can go out for a day on the water. We've got a boat rented and will probably go to a restaurant with a dock for lunch and then there really isn't a plan after that for my actual birthday day. It's funny that we're going out on a boat on our day off since we both work on boats every (working) day.

So here are the numbers on the day before my 42nd birthday:

-------starting (1-24)/current(3-24)---------
Weight--194lbs/179lbs

Chest--41"/38"

Waist--36.5"/32.5"

Hips (ugh)--45.5" /43"

Left Thigh--27"/25.5"

Left Upper Arm (the guns)--13"/12"

My upper body seems to be more accepting of weight loss. Even after 15 pounds my clothes aren't fitting all that differently. Maybe not bursting at the seems, but not really loose. Maybe in 2 more months I'll have lost 30 pounds and my clothes will see fit to loosen up.

Not so much to do with weight loss, but just with life in general. I have no idea how to get out of this job I just got without feeling like a failure. It doesn't pay beans and I always have to be there at night and I don't get home until around 11. I don't see my husband because he leaves early for work and goes to bed early. We don't get to eat meals together which is very important to me. Now I have most of my meals by myself and when I'm at work I eat alone out of tupperware. It's depressing. It was supposed to be something to get me out of the house a little during the day--part time--and it's turned into this really boring night job. My supervisor is out of town until Wednesday and I guess I'm just going to have to tell her that I can't work as much as she has me on the schedule. It's supposed to be no more than 30 hours a week and it's turned into way more than that. I was told the company doesn't hire anyone as full time so they don't have to provide benefits or overtime pay, but will work everyone way more than full time hours, but then one week will drop the hours to below part time so you aren't automatically classified as full time. They're a bunch of shysters if you ask me. Ugh.
I did however make two casseroles today so at least there's some food for a few days around here. Oh well--I should be happy to have a job--but I'm not. I'm on call for tonight's trip so I've got to call in at 430 to see if there are enough passengers to warrant me coming in. Crossing my fingers there won't be but having a feeling there will. Then I work tomorrow from 12 to 1030 ish Wednesday from 8 to 1030ish and on call again on Thursday. I have off Friday, Saturday and Sunday for which I'm thankful, but I requested it when I was hired since Friday is my birthday and I want to have some fun.
I hope everyone is having a good Monday.

Skipped weigh in Wednesday because of work. I did weigh this morning however and am up a pound which really gets my goat. I have no one to blame but myself. Stupid, delicious beer. I had unofficially weighed on Saturday and I was at 181 even and honestly thought today I would perhaps, just mayyyybbbeeee dip my toe into the warm soothing water that is the 170s. Nope. I was shocked to see a gain, but then remembered my Sunday afternoon beerfest. I've also been a little more liberal than usual with the nuts as well, but I find it so difficult to believe any of this would add up to an entire pound. I realize that there are many variables at play and one pound is actually nothing, just a quirk, but I feel if I look at it in that light then every week that a new pound is added instead of subtracted I'll rationalize it that way and in no time I'll be back to where I started.
Exercise has been almost non-existant as well. My so called part-time job this week is beyond full time. I really shouldn't even be here doing this but honestly I have no enthusiasm whatsoever to get up and do anything with another 10 hour day of tourists and springbreakers in my very near future. Another fabulous thing about living in Florida (I hope the sarcasm meters are going off) is that if you (me) are employed on a boat, the company who owns said boat, does not have to pay overtime. How nuts is that??? Stupid loopholes. Luckily my schedule for next week is a little more in line with what I want to work. I never wanted to work 10 hour days, but that's the shortest day possible unless your called in to cover a specific trip. Friday I have a 14+ hour day this week and again on Tuesday of next week. Blah!!!
Hopefully the schedule for next week doesn't change too much. A guy who is even newer than me walked off the job yesterday afternoon which is for the best really. He thought sleeping on the job was acceptable behavior and when he was approached about it from the 1st mate he said he didn't need this shit and took off. Anyone want a job on a tour boat? We've got an opening and you'd be doing me a favor.
HAPPY ST PATRICK'S DAY!!!
Beware of green beer
Slainte!

PS I've been reading journals while I'm at work on my iPhone and wish I could comment, but am too slow on that little keyboard, but I'm with you, my buddies and others, in spirit. Carry on!
