65 you man happy to be here!
I am Scott, a 65-year-old man who loves exercise! I climb stairs where I work (a competitor in the 2022 Big Climb here is Seattle), use on-site gyms at my job, and walk a lot. On weekends, I use my home elliptical. I saw my Dad waste away and pass 9 years ago, and won't let it happen to me!
I'm very thankful to FatSecret, having just found it. I was under the impression that I didn't eat that much. Wrong! I love the database that breaks down my daily meals and shows me that, while not overeating, I certainly wasn't under-eating. It was an eye-opener too, to alert me to little things that added significant calories. Condiments, like mayo, and the occasional Reese’s cups! Additionally the fat, protein, and carbohydrate breakdown has been very enlightening. I gained 16 unwanted pounds over the winter. 5 years ago, I dropped from 215 to 180. I will have an easier time getting rid of this winter bulk thanks to this site. Using it, and the calorie breakdowns, I think it's pretty easy to use as an excellent tool and avoid all those costly personal trainer type websites. I did go through the initial sign up on V-Shred. Happy that the RDI there for me was the same as here on FS. It gave me a good idea of what I should be shooting for as far as RDI and Fat/Carb/Protein breakdown of that RDI.
I'm learning as I go, and have some concerns about over-exercising. I was bombarded with health propaganda as I reached 65, and many cautioned about it. I’m on the elliptical every day. Weekdays, 45 minutes, Saturday 30-45, and Sunday 30, all in the aerobic zone. Weekdays, walking between 7-10k steps. Also on weekdays, 800-1000 steps climbing actual stairs, about 15 minutes in duration. Love to hear comments on this.
If I can help anyone here, would love to!
