Hi Raymond, I have been Banting since April this year. There are two pieces of advice that I can give you from my own experience. I have been on a diet most of my adult life.
The first one is, before you even start an eating program, your mind has to be right. I use a meditation specifically aimed at weightloss every day to keep my mind right and to stay focused on what I want to achieve. I am happy to share this with you if you are interested. I know that meditation isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Then, the eating plan you choose has to be something that you can sustain long term. If you go on a diet, you cant stick to long term, you set yourself up for failure and disappointment. The interesting thing here is, we blame ourselves - for not having the willpower, being weak, etc when the truth is actually that the diet itself is ineffective, not our inability to stick to it. I hate being hungry and I hate the feeling of being deprived so banting works really well for me because the food is tasty, you can eat until satisfied. The only rules are no carbs or sugar and only eat when you are hungry. This along with the intermittent fasting works really brilliantly for me. Research everything you can about nutrition. My absolute favourite site is Dr Eric Berg. He, along with Tim Noakes and Jonno Proudfoot have really opened my eyes to what is truly healthy as opposed to all the lies the food industry tell us to keep us fat and sick.
I have been saving up some money to buy myself a whole new wardrobe, but, I have to weigh 60 kilos before I am "allowed" to go shopping. This is my motivation. I also set myself small goals and reward myself each time I achieve them, like, have my nails done professionally or go for a massage. I never use food, healthy or not, as a reward.
I hope this helps you.
