Ieksie's Journal, 30 September 2016

Yeah, I expected this...

One lesson that I've certainly learned this week: Even though I fast from dinner to dinner, if I eat high carbs I don't lose weight, in fact, I pick up weight.

Of course, I knew this, but now it has been proven true. From now on I will keep to low carb eating in the week & then on weekends I can relax a little.

Have a fun-filled Friday everyone!!!

I am low carb on Mon, Tues and Wed. I would love to keep it 5 days low carb but most of the time I end up consuming about 300g carbs on a Thursday because I celebrate weight loss with cake. lol! But honestly, its great to have low carb days during the week because we don't want to make our weekends difficult and we know now that one does not have to entirely give up carbs 7days a week to achieve weight/fat loss :) Perhaps try starting to have a 36 hour fast to force your body to empty out glycogen and dig into its fat stores.

I wish I could, but alas, hubby will "die" if he can't eat within the 24 hours. I don't mind going low carb the whole week, 90% of the time my carbs are below 50g & 50% of the time below 30g, so I believe I'm on the right track. My biggest problem is wine!!! At times, I'll drink a whole bottle every night of the week... #alcoholicmuch

Hi guys. Thx for your info Leksie. I'm glad you are having success with the carb thing. I keep my carbs around 30g net carbs per day and then have cheat days maybe once or twice a week but then my carbs don't go over 50g. But I'm not seeing any results. I'm also counting calories and try to stay round 1500cal per day but on cheat day it goes up to 2300cal. Am I cheating too much? What can it be? Ps- it's usually the wine and chocolate....

CHereen I had a look at your food diary now. The devil is in the detail. Your RDI is 1500 calories so in a week your total calories limit is 10 500 calories BUT based on your food diary you have consumed 12 026 calories. This means that you have consumed an excess of 1526 calories for this last week therefore you would not be in a weight/fat loss state. Hope this makes sense to you and helps you to adjust the future to make it give you results :) Sticking to low carb eating can work but if the calories consumed exceeds your RDI for the week then your body has no need to break down bodyfat for energy and will just breakdown the food in your tummy for its energy needs and store the excess 1526 calories as bodyfat and then it will keep storing each week as long as your total weekly calories consumed are higher than 10 500 calories.

Hi BBO. Thx for the input! The RDI I've set for myself, but according to my Fitbit I'm burning round 2300 cal per day. So I should loose in the end then? Anyway. I do get what your saying and in the end of the day it's still calories in vs calories out hey. I'm just battling to find the perfect diet/ lifestyle I can stick with that will give results but has room for a cheat day and lots of wine 😜 Leksie- sorry for making your journal my chat room with BBO! Have a blessed week everyone.

Many of us have found the 5:2 Fast Diet combined with 16:8 Intermittent Fasting and a few low carb days gives us alot of flexibility to enjoy cheat days and not derail our progress completely. Those 500 calories or less "fast" days really helps push us into fat burning mode. Give it a try, stick with it for a month or two and watch the magic. Myself, Leksie, etc. all follow fasting lifestyles and are glad to give you tips to make it easier to do.

P.s: That's why I've opted for the fasting lifestyle, because it is so flexible, it is NOT a diet & you can eat what you want when you need to, and then just counteract the eating with fasting. Google Dr Jason Fung, he as an IDM blog, where he explains fasting in detail, and to me he opened a whole new world!!
