So...had a dental appointment a couple of days ago. Nothing new for me to have a bit of "white coat syndrome," especially when dealing with the latest tooth problems. However, my BP was very high on two separate occasions in the office. The assistant looked at me and said, "I wouldn't expect someone to look like you to have a BP this high." Doc's opinion was that until the BP was brought under control any procedure would be out of the question. Went to the base wellness center the following day and my BP was 160/100, later in the afternoon 150/100. Still not happy in the slightest. Funny that I could run 6.2-6.4 miles at high eight-minute pace both those days. One more visit yesterday morning to the wellness center: BP was 180/110...hand-checked. Went ahead and contacted my primary care guy, whom I hadn't seen in ages, for an appointment. While in the office my BP was 139/86 (prehypertensive); better, but not good. And my weight is up about 20 pounds from where I'd tolerate it. So now I'm on a brief regimen of BP meds and cutting out as much bad stuff (stressors, too!) as possible. So long, French fried stuff; 'adios, cervezas en cantidades grandes.' I've got some lab work on the agenda to see if there's anything hiding under the surface, but I'm sure it's time to get serious about lifestyle changes (for what it's worth, I walk or run ~40 miles per week, so it's not a "lack of exercise" issue).
