There's the top of my carb bounce. Quite happy with it. Today is fasting day and I have a cord of firewood to split. Should take me a couple of hours. Maybe four without food.

You know how sometimes things sneak up on you? Last night I had Chinese. Not the people, the food. Loved it. Have no issues with them. The people, not the food. Of course, what we call Chinese food is likely not Chinese food. Anyway, either way I ended up eating... chow mein. Yep. Mmm. Something tasted funny in the beef and broccoli, but I'm pretty sure it was just a spice. In any case, within an hour I was asleep in my bed and that lasted 2 hours. Yep. Likely a reaction to the ridiculous insulin spike that I got from the chow mein, or the MSG or whatever. I love chow mein. Apparently now it hates me.

Anyway, I woke up and found myself feeling disappointed in my progress with weight lifting when suddenly it struck me. My current lean body mass according to calipers is 160 pounds. My body fat is roughly 15%. A year and a half ago, I was 165 and 10% body fat. That means my lean body mass then was... 148 pounds. 148 pounds? 148 pounds!!! In a year and a half I've put on 12 pounds of lean mass. That's about .7 pounds per month. Where did this come from? I was shocked. I felt like I was making no progress other than in strength, and yet, I was doing really well.

When you look at it in terms of lean mass, all I need to get back to 10% bf is to lose 10 pounds. Am I in a hurry? No way! It will be easy to beat that by summer. But now, maybe I can look at gaining another 3 pounds of lean while losing that weight. Sometimes progress is so slow we hardly notice it. It's the long term we have to be prepared for. Obviously part of the issue is being weight conscious rather than health conscious. That's something all of us should consider.

The fasting is working and 6 day a week at maintenance calories or above should allow the body to recomp during those days with the fat being cut through the day of fasting. I AM AS PSYCHED AS I HAVE EVER BEEN!
190.2 lb Lost so far: 9.8 lb.    Still to go: 0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
gaining 12.6 lb a week

As long as the grub is made by Asians, I'm calling it authentic. Great work on the body sculpting, bro, you're a dog gone beast!

Well done, Bruce, and you're right - it's only in the long-term that we notice the tiny changes adding up. It's interesting how our attitudes to the whole process, and our goals, change over time, to! Great post!
