DakotaBiker's Journal, 16 January 2015

Well being sick and on business travel really messed me up in some ways, but things got better in others. Failed to workout Saturday through Tuesday. Pretty much lay sick Sat/Sun with sporatic diet that included non-diet "comfort" food. Travelled sick Monday and ate crap while doing so. Worked long day Tuesday so no exercise - but at least diet was reasonable Tues/Wed.

Wednesday evening I finally worked out at the hotel gym, which, to my pleasant surprise was recently upgraded to include two new precor ellipticals. When I lost all the weight in 2010 I did so on a Sears model at home and precor machines when on travel. The calorie counts on each machine were very close for comparable workouts, so I felt really confident in their accuracy. But then I lost the Sears elliptical in the divorce and eventually replaced it with a Reebock whose calorie counts seemed much higher... I had guessed maybe about 25% higher and figured that as long as I was consistent and recalibrated myself to the amount of daily deficit I would be fine... But being on the Precor, I remembered what a good workout felt like and how many real calories I was burning. The "vanity" calories of the Reebock are 83% higher for a comparable workout of equal duration as the Precor. Ridiculous! Have learned to ignore the Reebock calorie count and will now use the FatSecret machine rates that most closely match my Precor performance.

So yesterday, I had no exercise, a long day of meetings, horrible business travel, home personal stress, and eating crap. Got in late and went straight to bed. This morning was not surprised, but still disappointed, to see a significant weight gain between the bad habits and post flight (I always seem to weigh in heavy after a flight.) But I managed to hit the elliptical and do a full hour, which is a first since re-starting my weight loss.

So the up side of the week is that I got two really good workouts in. I remember feeling really good and energized after working out in 2010, but haven't been able to capture that feeling yet this time around until Wednesday. I did 46 minutes that evening for "only" 600 calories, but they were 600 real believable calories and I felt great. I probably could have (would have) kept going but for being later for dinner/drinks with co-workers. Today after an hour, ignoring the Reebock vanity calories, I feel good, not great, but pretty good, and am happy to have finally hit the one hour mark 3 weeks into working out.
