Redporchlady's Journal, 17 March 2023

No change but that is ok and did not do my daily plank yesterday. I had blood drawn for my annual physical and they hit a nerve. Never had that happen before and it was like a bolt of electricity from my elbow down thru my thumb. The nurse looked at me and asked if I was ok and I said no! What was that? She said I must have hit a nerve and she pulled the needle out. Now depending how I move my wrist I get a sharp pain. I have bench presses and deadlifts today so I will be letting my trainer know just in case. I want to make sure he is spotting me in case it spasms or something.

That sounds like no fun at all! I’m glad you’re using a spotter today and hopefully the pain/spasms will end soon

@RR thanks and maybe strength training will help too!

Oh wow sounds like she wasn't paying attention or didn't know what she was doing?

@bueitabishop I don’t know what is going on but it is bothering me. Have a hot compress on the injection site as it is really hurting.

That doesn't sound good at all.

@RR - workout went ok and actually chest supported rows hurt worse than my bench press but at least if I dropped them I would not hurt myself. The doctor put it in my record and said for now to put hot compresses on the injection site to see if that helps heal and report back in two weeks if the pain is still there in my wrist.

not a doc, but I wouldn't be able to wait two weeks if she hit or moved my ulnar nerve to where it was inflamed. it's a rest and wait thing, but I'd be mad. you might want to push to be seen after a couple of days, not two weeks.

I think you need to let your wrist rest and not push your luck. You’re very much in shape already and probably could use a few days off. Honestly, you’re in shape, take a sabbatical.💕

@Katsolo - I agree that I may check in earlier!

@shrewdness- Agree may need to lay low or have my workout modified for a bit. I mentioned it to the trainer Friday and with having two days off over the weekend it is not getting better so will talk to him again Monday.

Oh goodness. This is unfortunate. What’s the update? Hope it’s returned to normal now. xo

@wifey it has not resolved yet. They are going to do an ultrasound on the vein but I cannot straighten my arm without pain shooting to my wrist.

Did the labwork from the blood draw at least turn out good? (Looking for that silver lining 🤕)

Oh no. I’m so sorry. Hopefully things will improve. ❤️🙏🏻

@JB - Yes you are spot on there. All my bloodwork was awesome and he said that I have done an excellent job getting them all in check. He did run some extra tests for the kidneys and all good. One of the problems with lifting weights 3x a week there is no good day for a blood test so the extra tests he ran show more of what is going on. I talked about this with my trainer and he said that is common. My primary said we could run everything again in 6 months if I wanted to watch it but the problem with some of the GFR calculators they use age and not other factors such as my low BMI so it skews the result so he uses other calculators and tests to determine.

Yikes on the blood draw.

@Morticia - It has finally almost resolved two weeks later. I get a little twinge of pain still but never stopped working out as it felt like PT and helped things feel better. I had told the trainer so he was aware and he said strength training is PT but of course we progressively get stronger with strength training.
