CrystalJo, I think your approach is sensible. Your weight may go up in the short term but I truly believe you will begin to lose again. I try for 1250 to 1350 cal per day. The WHO reported that 1200 calories daily is “the border of semi-starvation”. My fear is that if I try to reduce my caloric intake too much my body will hold on to fat to preserve calories.

@Maguscanook...thanks for your support. I've been at 1000-1200cal/day since I started here on FS (Aug.2021). I just feel worn out most of the time. Maybe this will make a difference, we'll see 🤷♀️

I just changed my RDI on the app and my maintenance calories are 1900!!! YIKES!

Yup, that number would startle me too. What do you think about 1450-1550 for awhile? I won’t have that in my future for quite a while but those are the numbers I toy with for my initial maintenance. I’m sending you lots of positive Canadian vibes today CrystalJo🤗

maybe that is high? Have you tried another calculator. I suggest not adding in exercise when you calculate. I am also adding in more food this week.

My maintenance is about 1500 without activity. I can eat more than that usually

I included activity because I DO exercise every day for 30-60 minutes, usually with weights.

My fancy-pants scale has been telling me that I'm losing muscle weight, even though I do cardio + strength training. That makes me worry that my low cals are leading to muscle 'wasting' or sarcopenia.

Also important to remember to those “fancy” scales are not accurate in measuring fat or muscle.

Add the calories gradually, 100 calories or so a week, while keeping constant activity. This will insulate you from the "shock." How much protein are you eating?

Crystal, if you have been eating 1000-1200 calories, add more slowly. Start @ 1300 for a week and slowly add more each week. Eventually, you'll probably be able to eat 1900 and maintain.

It is just my opinion but I think Fat Secret seriously overestimates how many calories are spent by exercising. And also just my opinion but those scales cannot tell your body composition by your footprint..... It can guess

First of all, thank you, each 1 of you for listening & caring enough to comment. I tend to agree that jumping straight to 1900/day would be a mistake. I doubt if I even ate that much BEFORE I joined FS! The app has been saying my RDI is 1400 to lose up to a pound a week, which has been my goal from the beginning. I have consistently been eating WAAAY under that and was doing fine for a long time, but the scale has stalled and so has my energy level. Maybe I'll just aim for 1400-1500 for the next week (though I doubt if I'll go that high)....
