jmb3450's Journal, 30 May 2014

I was hoping for more than a pound down. According to fairy tales the tortoise wins the race, I don't want to win I just want to cross the finish line...but that is a win in this game isn't it. My body seems to be holding on to waste, I was more regular when I had less fiber in my diet....not to be gross but I think today might be release day. My wife has told me for years I'm full of it and I guess she's right. Sunday marks one month since I started this and my goal was 15 lbs in the first month. Next weigh in will be Sunday morning since that'll be a month, we'll see if I can get there, I'm 2 lbs away right now.

My wife helped me take body measurements last night. Plugging them into 6 different online body fat calculators and taking the average I'm getting 35.35% body fat. I'd estimated it at 37% before taking any measurements using pictures of different body type, I came pretty close. Now just need to continue on getting that number way down.

Last night I learned how to clarify butter, so I finally made pan-seared scallops the right way and they were restaurant quality delicious with a nice golden brown crust. Had sweet potato fries and broccoli w/ parmesan cheese plus 4 large scallops and the meal was 584 calories. I'm still amazed at what I can eat and stay in my RDI when I'm making smart food choices.

Almost a month into this, lifestyle change things are beginning to become habit which is good. I think that's at least part of why I've been able to resist temptations that in the past would have done me in. There have been times when I've seen or thought of bad foods and remembered how good they taste, but I haven't had really bad cravings where it's like I just have to have them. Another good thing is that I'm not resorting to emotional eating when situations or relationships become difficult, nor am I eating compulsively which was one of my bad behaviors of the past. I know it would be easy to just jump ship and go back to the way things were and I so much do not want to go back to where I was. It's a day by day journey, sometimes a bit of a struggle, but it's a good journey I intend to follow to the end.

TGIF, it's FRIDAY! Let's make it a good one.

Keep it up man! I'm glad we are buddies so now I can watch you be successful! And the first three months were the hardest for me to deal with temptations. Now I don’t even think about it anymore. Last night I had a homemade taco salad. I had enough room in my diet to eat about 10 corn tortilla chips with it. Well I sat down, got about 3/4 of the way through the bowl and realized that I had completely forgot the chips. I didn’t even miss them. Back when I first started my diet, I NEVER would have forgotten to add the chips if I had room in my diet for them. Habits take time to form. You got this, one day at a time!

So true about making smart food choices. Try cauliflower with parm too, so good roasted. Great to hear of lifestyle changes.

Add a fiber laxative pill to your daily supplements. I did and it really helped me. :)

Ginsin, I really like cauliflower. I'm starting to put parmesan cheese on vegetables a lot now in place of salt. Creamed cauliflower is delicious, just have to watch what goes into it. @Chunka - I hate to do it but I resorted to a laxative, it did the trick. :) Thanks for the support.

What KIND of fiber pill do you guys take?

Great job, JMB3450! That's the way to git 'er'dun. And BIGBASSBRENT, I've been cutting down on my portion sizes of meat / salt/ etc and relying on herbs and spices to give flavor. Looking forward to a lean beef hamburger with a little blue cheese treat. Piled high with vegetables (green leaf lettuce, cucumbers, the worx and spicy mustard). Halfway done and thinking, "This is pretty good, I definitely have the spice the meat a little more next time to bring out the beef." Nearly finished, and where's the beef? In the kitchen in the skillet (never made it to the bun)! Ate the patty later because I was full. Truthfully, I enjoy my my food A WHOLE LOT MORE and really taste it! #StillFiguringItOut...one meal at a time :D
