I love my wife, but she just doesn't get dieting. She can eat three main courses at dinner and not gain an ounce. I am jealous -- but I have come to terms with it. The part I have a much harder time with is when she tries to support me on my diet plan. I got stuck late at work last night -- and she tried to be helpful by cooking dinner. I appreciate the gesture -- but the food she cooked was not on plan -- too many calories and way too much sodium. I am then forced into a position where I either need to offend her by not eating or eat the food and deal with the weight gain. You can see by my gain today what I choose. <sigh/>

I think it's hard for people around us to truly understand what we're going through. I had never cared about what I was eating or drinking before and I now realize how cruel my ignorance must have been to my partners.

I've run into the same problem. I usually eat just a little (so not to hurt his feelings) along with a salad. I guess that's my way of compromising.

Rather than be upset, I suggest you two find an activity or special time to share that doesn't involve eating. YOUR diet and her ability to large amounts of food is not why you married. Eating together is an activity that brings sharing and being intimate with each other (not talking about sex). I would be so upset when my husband (deceased) would pile on homemade goodies when he knew I was dieTing. He loved me dearly and simply missed the talk and laughter that was usually around the dinner table. When I think of him, I remember him not the food that was on the table. Find another way to give her her intimacy back (smile) dance, sing, tell jokes but don't eat stuff just because.

Eat the food, but just eat smaller portions. Keep your snacks either down to zero or only snack on fresh vegies. That way you both will be happy.

It's hard when someone is trying to help but doesn't understand the plan. Perhaps suggest that she not use salt when she cooks and you will add it at the table if you want it. My husband never gains an ounce, so I understand your frustration.

Drink lots of water to help offset the sodium.
