skinnyminilinny's Journal, 09 October 2019

Ever since I started on this journey and posted my macros and calories based on what I know about myself and what it takes for me to lose weight, it was told to me that I needed to be over a thousand calories and between 12 and 1400. Every time I try and get up to 1,000 calories it puts me in a stall. it does not work for me. I have to stay at 800 or less to lose any kind of weight. and that means less than 4% carbs. I've done it, I've proved it, and anybody that wants to argue with me needs to go back and look at all my posts. That's just how I am made. if you are not a believer then please do not follow me and please do not tell me how to eat. Thank you.
208.0 lb Lost so far: 24.0 lb.    Still to go: 39.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

I’m with you @skinny! I’ve fallen for that too! There just isn’t enough real talk about what it takes for us short older ladies to drop weight. It’s funny you posted this because I’m about to switch back to under 1000 so I can get some movement going. Clearly I’ve been hovering around maintenance calories for a while now. Good luck! 💕

What do you do for a living? Do you weigh all portions and count every single bite/lick? My guess is that you go really low in calories for a while giving you a new low weight. You then attempt to eat more which raises your base weight. You're not gaining fat at 1k calories when you weigh 208 pounds. Water weight fluctuation is the only possibility. I recently ate over my goal, I went from 179 pounds to 186. Did I gain 7 pounds of fat in one day? Nope. Two days later and I am still 5 pounds above my real weight. It's just water.

Multiply your weight by 10. That is the absolute lowest your "burn" could be. Most anyone besides maybe a comatose patient would lose fat at that calorie intake.

Roboto, you're down 6 pounds from this time last month. That is awesome progress. Also, your intake will be far and away from hers since you're 75 pounds lighter. Same goes for you, Keyten. You're 101 pounds lighter. The larger you are, the more energy you require to do the same action which is why I asked what you do, Minilinny. Your daily activities have a LARGE effect on your energy requirements. It's physics.

You definitely know your body and what works for you so I don't doubt you. I had to play around with my calories to find the best that worked for me, trial and error kinda deal. Sounds like you already trial and erred so now you know. Best to you.

The thing is, most dieters even dieting for many years, don't know their body. Even seasoned pro bodybuilders hire a coach to help them. I've read hundreds of metabolic ward studies and there has never been a person with a burn as low as she claims. There has never been a study that shows that carbs cause more fat gain in ANYONE, there has never been a study that shows protein causes fat gain yet you have someone who has dieted for many years claiming protein makes him fat on this site. Many people think they know how it all works with their limited experience but until they take part in a study that has no room for error, they don't truly know what is happening. I've been doing this for almost 20 years and I just discovered how much of a difference a high protein intake makes. We're all students and the current science is readily available to guide us.

Oh wow that's like a dictionary for weightloss /fitness. Thanks for sharing. I can't offer advice I am just a layman in this field, just support is all I have to offer. I think of course we all want to learn the science of how our bodies work and what will work for us.

Also, this link Johncip shared yesterday is great for anyone thinking they have a slow metabolism. I've seen this many times before. https://www.vox.com/2018/9/4/17486110/metabolism-diet-fast-weight-loss

^She thought she had a slow metabolism yet here is a quote from the articel. She is 150 pounds by the way. "“[The results] suggest you’re perfectly normal,” Hall said. My metabolic rate was what he’d have predicted for someone my age, height, sex, and weight. In other words, I didn’t have a “slow metabolism.” I had burned the equivalent of 2,330 calories per day in the chamber, including during sleep, and most of those calories (more than 1,400) were from my resting energy expenditure."

Here is another quote from the article that you want everyone to read Diablo: In a remarkable study of Biggest Loser reality TV show participants with obesity, researchers showed that crash dieting can permanently slow a person’s metabolic rate, leading them to hang on to the calories they were eating for longer, though this isn’t true for everybody who loses weight. Why can't you just respect Skinnyminilinny's and not follow her post?

^ Even then it isn't enough to slow metabolism so much that a 208 pound woman can gain weight on 1k calories a day. Also, I didn't see where she advised that she did 8 hours of cardio and ate 500 calories a day for several months like TBL contestants did. Excuse me for trying to explain things. Taking time to help someone. I don't see you doing that, not that anyone would take you seriously since you look like a wine bottle and have a private profile, but I bet your results are incredible.

I’ve lost all year eating 2000cals a day!! I’d die with less. I could always eat more but hold back. My lunch is like 800 cals on average. Not sure how long this is going to be doable skinnymini. But all the best. ❤️

skinny-I too have to stay right around 1,000 or less calories or I don't lose weight. I have reached by original goal and started eating a little more and I am gaining weight rather than maintaining.

Diablo, you asked what I do for a living and said anyone that was on that low of calories must be comatose. I have been banned to a chair for the last 2 and 1/2 years with my legs elevated and not allowed to exercise per two doctors. I take high amounts of steroids which put me at this highest weight. My normal weight was 115 to 120. What kind of a metabolism would a person who sits in a chair and can't move have? I have had serious health issues for some time now and they're trying to get me well enough so that I can function. I am almost 68 years old. I don't work I'm retired and right now disabled. I cannot go workout right now. I can barely walk 6 feet without my heart racing and my oxygen level dropping. Some people just can't do what a normal healthy person does and not all the time does all the advice from someone help. I'm sorry I wasn't directing this whole thing at you. I just right now with my health and my limitations.

Well that answers that, I didn't know about those conditions. If what you're doing is working keep on doing it. 👍🏼
